Can anyone tell me how big this is, total dimensions and how much the pot will hold

It is 16cm x 18cm x 10cm (H-W-D). It will easily hold 1.5 litres in the base, and an additional .5 litre in the cover.

Anyone know if this would work with the swedish type m40 mess kits? Need a replacement pot.

I have seen the Hungarian mess kit used in the Swedish kit, and the Russian is about the same size. I think it would work.

What do you mean? It's a mess kit...yes, that's what it was designed to do. Just clean it really cook and put it over fire before putting food in.

does it have the leather belt closure?

No, but the mess tin has loops for it. Hikishop sells nice WW2 Soviet repro straps.
