Crossing guard approved
I'm a crossing guard and I need a really loud whistle because I play in traffic most of the day. So I purchased the storm whistle and the hyper whistle to see which one would be the loudest because I want a really loud whistle to get people's attention. I returned the hyper whistle and kept the storm whistle. This storm whistle is a very loud whistle I've got compliments and other crossing guards are going to purchase it. It does not misfire. It is very loud and I am out in the street it does not hurt my ears as some other comments have said. Now with that being said if you're in a house yes it'll hurt your ears if you're being beside somebody blowing it yes it'll hurt your ears. But if you're blowing it and open space and area no it will not. I use the storm whistle every single day not had a problem with it. I've even had people tell me they appreciate me using this whistle. Our police chief likes this whistle. It is a rather bulky whistle but I don't care it does the job it's loud and it gets people's attention and keeps me safe. Male or female this whistle does the job. The hyper whistle that I bought and returned was terrible the blowback on it comes back on you and will blow your ears off. It does not blow underwater and it does not reach a 2-mi radius that hyperwistle is a lie. By the storm whistle. I did the work for you trust me. Storm whistle has my vote and the approval of crossing guards whose safety always comes first.

Whistle While You Work
This whistle is no joke! The power is incredible, and use shouldn't be taken lightly, definitely wear ear protection, or use only in times of emergency. It is a little big, but still easy to use. The color is highly visible, and the lanyard ring makes it easy to care to wear around the neck. Good emergency item for your bugout bag.

Extremely loud, very well made. Lifetime purchase.
I use it for hiking and range instruction. It's exactly like the US Coast Guard whistle - this thing is incredibly loud. Excellent safety device.

Very, very loud whistle.
Holy Crap on a cracker!! The thing is LOUD! So loud. I didn’t think a whistle could be that loud. But it really is. I thought for a bit and can’t come up with anything I ever heard that was louder. It even comes with a little paper that says “WARNING: Whistle is very loud.” You could damage your hearing with that thing! I got it for hurricanes, in case someone ends up under a pile of rubble, they could blow the whistle and conserve energy. I only bought one because I wasn’t sure if they’d work but they’ll be stocking stuffers for everyone this Christmas. It’s a very weird shape but it is super loud. I didn’t try it underwater. I believe that it could be heard a little in the water. I didn’t think so when I read it but then I heard the brain-rattling screetch. If you just want a regular whistle, I guess you could use this and not blow too hard. But where this whistle excels is in being so loud that the neighbors will come outside, worried. Literally. It does have a ring attached but no cord. You have to supply your own, if you want it around your neck. So that’s that.

120 decibels according to my Apple Watch
I am not sure an Apple Watch is accurate at this sound level. Bringing the whistle 1 inch (2 cm or so) from the watch registered 120 decibels. This thing leaves my ears ringing for hours. Now that I've examined it closely, it looks like a standard whistle with a megaphone type cone over the output to make the sound louder. There is some kide of rattling thing like a ball inside the whistle. What it is good for: emergencies. Sound over great distances. I am going to have this around my neck when I go hiking. There is a rim over the mouthpiece to help you hold the whistle in. I think that is a good idea if I have to keep the whistle in my mouth for a long time. But it is too loud to blow all the time. Maybe not so good: everyday use. Like as a PE teacher. I think it can damage your hearing. You have to try to blow slowly for a reduced volume. Also, a standard whistle has a more comfortable mouthpiece. I would not get it if I have to blow it every couple of minutes like my gym teacher used to do. Bad. The mouthpiece has a square cross-section and it is hard to get a tight seal. Would have been better if the mouthpiece is more oval. So you have to sort of pinch your mouth. I figured it out in 30 seconds.

Very loud and lightweight.
The whistle is lightweight and very loud. It left a ringing in my ears after I blew it for several minutes. You will definitely want to plug your ears when using it. Something concerning to me is that it came in a zip lock style baggy with a generic printed lable stuck to it rather than the packaging shown in the photo which makes me wonder if I was sent a product that was previously returned. I don't like the thought of that. I was a little bit concerned that it was going to be large and bulky. Although it is larger than a referee whistle, it's very manageable and worth the extra bit of size for the benefit of being extremely loud. The description says that it's 3¼"... I guess it matters how you measure (see photos)

Whistle Works as Planned
Whistle works for emergencies. It was hard to find the official or original of this product as there are many copies out there. I purchased several to have in our vehicles and in the house if there is an emergency it is easily accessible.

LOUD! When you need it.
I own one and got this for a family member. It certainly performs its function and performs it well. You can hear it underwater if you have a serious lungful of air. It is reasonably robust. The one I have personally, is on a keychain and gets abused and it is still in good working order. It doesn't use a pea that might get lost. Now for some common sense points I need to make. 1) With the exception of an emergency, don't blow it unless you have good hearing protection, it will cause ringing in the ears. 2) Don't blow it indoors. Like in point 1, emergency use is one thing, but this whistle is not a toy. It's as loud as a jet engine and in an enclose space, it's even louder. 3) It's a good idea to have it on a lanyard. The brighter, the better. International orange is good. If you carry it in your pocket, you want to know you have your hands on it. Same if you carry a purse or messenger case. With all that being said, it's a good investment in your safety. Pick up a few so you are never without.
