Back in those days, my oral comprehension had been excellent [I’d received an A], reading comprehension had been a B+, with my writing being somewhat lower. It is the oral capabilities that are the most important that one needs to communicate with others in German. While my oral comprehension of spoken German going from German to English after all of these years is still relatively quite decent after all of these years. However, these days, due to lack of an opportunity to speak German, I’ve got problems trying to formulate what I’d like to say in German. The reason I’m mentioning this is that my dear OH and I plan to travel to Germany got pre-empted due to family matters. Now due to the COVID-19 virus, our plan has once again due foiled. When traveling abroad to any European country, its citizens appreciate it when tourists try to communicate in the country’s language. The best thing about this particular book is its continued use of the phonetic pronunciation of each phrase throughout its pages. The phonetic pronunciation gives the book’s English readers the correct way to speak German in a manner they’ll be able to understand. For wanting to enrich its reader’s ability to speak German as if they’re a native, by providing them with the most useful phrased they might encounter or want to speak, I’ve given the book’s publisher 5 STARS for its endeavor. Review: Great book to learn German! - This is a great book to introduce learners to a new language. The beginning goes through the alphabet and provides the correct pronunciation. Then each phrase is given in English, German, and the phonetic pronunciation of the phrase in German. The phrases go through a large spectrum from easy to more difficult and some of the phrases are really funny like, "You stole my shoes and I would like them back." It was fun to look for these phrases that would actually come in handy in some situations but may not be something you would think of as normal conversation. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn German!!

SPEAKING GERMAN ALMOST LIKE A NATIVE
During my college days, about 45 years, I had Sociology as my major for which I’d received my BA, and for my minor, I wound up taking German. Back in those days, my oral comprehension had been excellent [I’d received an A], reading comprehension had been a B+, with my writing being somewhat lower. Words and phrases grouped by topic
The book provides single important key words as well as phrases and questions grouped by topics, from colours and numbers to phrases asking for direction or at the doctor. It covers a wide variety of topics. Each word/phrase is first given in English, below that in German, and below that again an attempt to write a phonic version of the word/phrase, based on the English pronunciation. As long as you are familiar with English phonetic rules, it kind of works - in not - ignore the last line and figure out the pronunciation on your own. Personally I am not keen on this kind of approach to learn a language, but I understand the need, that when you travel or have newly arrived in a country you have no language knowledge of, to have a quick guide at your finger tips.... I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Great Gift
My son is studying to be a teacher. His area of study has been History and Geography but he also loves language. He has taught himself some German and was interested in learning more. This book is great w phrases commonly used in the country.

This is a good book to have for a tourist. It provides many common phrases and questions that are most likely to be used. The book has an easy to follow pronunciation of the words.

Could have cross referencing.
This book looked like it might be helpful but it takes some hunting around to find a phrase I need in a pinch. The dietary phrases will be helpful since my daughter is lactose intolerant and we will need to discuss it with waitstaff when we travel next summer.

Every Play Scattergories? Use this book to make a homemade German edition!
The entire phrasebook is broken down into 27 categories. This is your everyday standard language use. It also includes common phrases someone who doesn't know German but finds themselves in Germany may want to use. The only fault is in the kindle edition there are no page numbers. Not entirely necessary but sometimes nice to have as a reference point. My favorite part about this book though is the fact that is makes the pronunciations a little easier by breaking them down per syllable. And of course the book's introduction starts off with explaining what letters and syllables are different from english. Take the time to work through this book and you will feel more comfortable stuttering out "Kann ich eine Speisekarte haben?" when you walk into a restaurant. Take advantage of the audiobook too!
