I had a bunch of battery cables to make. Definitely made the job easier and professional looking. Great tool to have.

Have had this crimper for a while now and have used it on multiple projects. It is a winner overall. It crimps well and the die set covers most of the common larger scale crimp jobs you might run into. Its construction is good and it is easy to use even on the larger lug sizes. I do have one word of caution. When a crimp does not fit the die ideally it can over crimp and produce small wings on the side of the barrel. It has not effected the integrity of the crimp but you loose the traditional smooh outer barrel when this happens. So, not on all crimps but potentially on those that trend a little on the big side of the die range.

This crimper is not very cheap, but it is well made and works extremely well. It is easy to use. It is important to make sure your lug is filled by the cable's wire. If the lug is bigger than the wire (actual fit, not the labels on lug or wire), you will have the excess lug material squeezed out of the dies to form "wings." If the lug ID closely matches the wire OD, your crimp will be perfect: not a hint of "wings." I fear that wire labels have become optimistic (inflated): actual metal in the cable is less than what the cable's label says. This can lead to ugly crimps - if the person crimping relies on the labels and doesn't check the actual fit between lug and wire. I found some cable labelled 4AWG that fit very nicely into a lug labelled 6AWG - at this combination made a wonderful crimp using the 6AWG/16DIM dies. Had I used a 4AWG lug and 4AWG/25DIM dies on this "4AWG" cable, I would have produced a loose crimp with pronounced wings. The dies are labelled in the DIM system, but a conversion to AWG is included. I used a paint pen to label the dies with AWG sizes. This conversion table is accurate.

This allows me to make high quality professional repairs on battery cable end without having to replace very expensive harnesses.
