Product description Plays fine, sounds sublime. From a well cared for personal collection. Buy with confidence--see my feedback. Thanks and enjoy this great CD. desertcart.com Watching DMX--baldheaded and shirtless, tattooed and musclebound--as he simultaneously goes platinum and gets arrested on rape charges (both of which occurred within weeks of this album's release), one can easily see the Yonkers, New York, rapper as a Tupac in training. And he's certainly no stranger to dumb thuggery on his much-anticipated debut. But unlike Tupac, who tempered hard-core beatdowns with party pick-me-ups, DMX is strictly business, part of a street reaction against the Puff Daddy-fueled, late-1990s slew of lightweight pop-rap crossovers. With a name too true for its own good, It's Dark and Hell Is Hot could occasionally use a cool breeze of levity. That said, the record is not without merit; despite the album's largely standard-issue beats and rhymes, both DMX's forceful voice and solid production have moments of greatness. At times DMX even manages to squeeze memorable hooks out of this otherwise claustrophobic release. --Roni Sarig P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); Review It's Dark and Hell Is Hot is a psychotic concept album that celebrates bloody style over creative substance.... While the often rough minimalistic beats can be infectious, they still don't mask the fact that his lyrics are often plain ugly. -- Spin See more Review: DMX cd review - Good cd lots ofgood songs. One of Rap's most intense debuts
When this first came out, I was in middle school and only heard songs like "Ruff Ryders Anthem" and "Get At Me Dog" and liked the songs alot, but I had no idea how deep this album really was at that time. On this album, DMX basically talks about how he lived from an early age and how he survived up to the point of catching a break in the rap industry. This guy is bi-polar and was homeless from age 8 until he caught a break (exact age might be wrong); he had to steal and rob to stay alive on the streets. This guy had it really, really hard and it shows in his lyrics and even in his voice on some songs. What I took away from this album is DMX's inner struggle that seemed to consume him and trouble him so much. He raps about killing people and sounds extremely angry on some tracks, but it sounds like venting frustration once you've heard the whole album through. This is him before he got famous, laying out part 1 of his early years (part 2 would be "Flesh of my Blood"). Anyway, the bottom line is this CD has a couple of skits that don't need to be there and about 2 songs that are average; overall though, this is one of the most personal, deep, and emotional rap albums I've heard since 2Pac (not that DMX should be compared to 2Pac or be held to 2Pac's standards). Buy this.

One of the best Hip Hop albums ever made
This album is a classic and goes hard from start to finish. DMX came with his own style that nobody else could imitate without looking stupid. The dark production, barks/growls, story telling, and dope features make for a unique & must have album for any fan of Hip Hop/Rap music. My favorite songs are the Intro, Stop Being Greedy, Damien, For My Dogs, Crime Story, N***** Done Started Something,How It's Going Down, and Let Me Fly... But really every song is worth replaying and there's a song for every mood you might be in and can definitely get you motivated when your working out or even having a bad day. This album is a true classic and you can't say your collection is complete without this incredible debut album from DMX who went on to sell over 30 million records and inspire people world wide.
