![Hawaii Five-O: Eighth Season [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51MpgolWxXL.jpg)

In the Aloha State, the action doesn't get any hotter, and the most diabolical criminals never take a vacation. Luckily, neither does the most elite police force ever assembled: Five-O. Detective Steve McGarrett is back, and thieves, gangsters and murderers are going away - for good. If you're looking for danger and excitement, the eight season of Hawaii Five-O is here - with all the explosive twists and turns of a legendary TV classic! Review: Still essential classic TV - This classic series has been remastered, and looks better than ever, with straightforward, well-made stories that provide first-class entertainment while making intelligent points. The acting is generally very good, with the main characters being believable and likeable. There are also some notable guest stars. Season 8 (of 12) does see a certain degree of routineness setting in - not too surprising, perhaps, after so long. And as well as changes to the main cast, the behind-the-scenes staff had also seen some radical changes around this time. However, while this season does not quite match the overall quality of the first six seasons, it is still essential classic viewing. Anyway, if you have fond memories of this series, this is your chance to relive it. If you have never seen it, you may find it a refreshing change from the labyrinthine plots and angst-ridden characters that seem to be a requirement of some modern series (although ideally you'd start with Season 1). Finally, you get one of the best opening sequences (and themes) in TV history, plus great Hawaiian locations. Review: Original is the best. - What can you say. Always loved this show and sorry to all those embracing the remake by there is only and will ever only be one Steve McGarrett and that is Jack Lord. Really happy to find this on Prime to buy as DVDs for Seasons 8 to 12 not as easy to find on region 2 DVD as they never got a UK release for whatever reason. Show as good as I remember it and will be getting the other seasons on Prime to complete my set.

Hawaii Five-O series 8
The original Hawaii Five-O series was screened on British TV between 1968 - 1980. A total of 284 x 60 minute episodes were made, all made on location in Hawaii. Other popular detective series made in Hawaii include Hawaiian Eye (1959 - 1963: 134 x 60min episodes), Magnum P.I. (1980 - 1988: 164 x 48min episodes). The original series has been remade (as Hawaii Five-O) and screened from 2010 onwards. There have been 118 x42min new episodes up until 2015. James MacArthur, who played ‘Danno” Danny Williams, Steve McGarrett’s second in command, made a cameo appearance in the Hawaii Five-O TV movie as Governor Dan Williams, the roll previously played by Richard Denning. These TV detective series span almost 60 years but the series I remember most of all is the original Hawaii Five-O with Jack Lord as Steve McGarrett, head of Five-O. I recall the ingenious plots and the fact that all the Five-O team wore suits and were immaculately dressed most of the time despite the hot and humid tropical environment of Hawaii. The remade series is probably more true to life in terms of dress sense but what the original series had was style, and style by the bucketful. Try as I may, I cannot get the original cast out of my mind when watching the remake series. Worse still are the new plots which seem to me too ‘generic’ for my taste. I mean by this that I have seen similar plots in other cop shows. Perhaps the writers of Hawaii Five-O have run out of ideas and look for interesting storylines elsewhere. Whether the remake series will be as memorable or as enduring as the original series is open to debate but at the time of this review the original series has notched up more than double the number of episodes of the remake. I remember the original Five-O with fondness and it is my intention to collect the entire series on DVD. I only need series 4 to complete my collection.

Excellent-as usual
After I ordered season 8 I was expecting it to be below par with previous seasons, according to some reviews . However I was very pleased that it is just as good as any other seasons. Some have mentioned a few guest stars but not one has said anything about Henry Darrow, who played ` Monilito` in the TV Western `High Chapparal`. Also, Actrees/ Cabaret singer Amanda McBroom who plays policewoman Sandy Wells in the same episode " loose ends get hit", and she also appears again several times in season 9 is excellent ......Plus my copy of season 8 does see `Duke` as part of the Five-O team ,before season 9,just not in the opening titles !! Most of my Amazon DVD orders normally arrive long before estimated dates but this took a very long time to be delivered for some reason.

The DVD's arrived quickly and in good condition. Picture and sound are of good quality. In season eight Steve McGarrett has come into a more mature statesman-type role. In "Murder - Eyes Only" we see McGarrett in his role in uniform as a naval reserve officer serving his annual two week deployment, and solving a case of espionage involving Wo Fat. "The Case Against McGarrett" again pits Louis Vashon in a plot against McGarrett, to exact revenge for his son's death. (Spoiler: McGarrett prevails. lol) Episodes in the latter seasons are somewhat hit and miss, but there's some enjoyable watching here.

Background to review.... 8th Season We have found that if you can't be in Hawaii, 50 is the next best thing. We have been to Hawaii 4 times in the last 9 years. We love it and can't get enough of it. Last Christmas my sister-in-law gave me a gift card. I had purchased all the Magnum PI seasons that I could so I decided to give H50 a try as my late mother was a faithful 50 fan. I was pleasantly surprised by H50 Season 1. Now besides Magnum PI I can get my Hawaiian fix between trips with H50. Well we developed a craving for H50 so that I have purchased and viewed all 7 seasons and 3/4 the way through season 8. I have found that all the H50 seasons are great 1 through 8. They seem to get better and better with scripts and settings. The only thing that could have been better is if they had more local actors to mix the blend of them from episode to episode. What I mean by that is in this week's episode you will have one actor playing a really bad guy and next week he or she is back as a good guy. This is a similar pattern that started with The 60's in "Wild Wild West" where that used the same group of bit actors over and over again. Robert Conrad commented that this made them a winning team because of the relationships formed. However this process in any series can be a little monotonous as in "West" or in Hawaii 50. The other question came to me: Why wasn't a movie made of H50? If it was good enough for older TV series like the Lone Ranger why not a movie of Hawaii 50? Finally, since I am running out of H50 episodes, I hope that fellow fans like all of you will look at a predecessor of H50 namely "Hawaiian Eye" DVDs which are currently Out of Stock by Amazon. If enough of you put yourselves on the "Wait List" it would make it available with large requests. In conclusion I recommend all Hawaii 50 seasons 1-8. I haven't gotten to "9" yet. I love the 8th season..... Mahalo, Aloha Phil
