Der Albumtitel repräsentiert die Landkarte der siebenjährigen Reise von BTS, die mit ihrem koreanischen Debüt im Juni 2013 begann und während der die Band Mitglieder so viel durchmachten, darunter Freude, Erfolge, Nöte und Herausforderungen und ihre Suche nach der Antwort auf die Reise, die niemals enden wird. „ OF THE SOUL : 7 ~ THE JOURNEY ~ ” enthält neben der schon veröffentlichten Single „Lights“ vier weitere neue Songs auf Japanisch, darunter die Leadsingle „Stay Gold“ und der Song „Your eyes tell“, den Jung Kook mitschrieb. Zudem sind unter anderem die bereits veröffentlichten Hits „Boy With Luv“, „IDOL“, „FAKE LOVE“ und auch erstmals „ON“, „Black Swan“, „Make It Right“ und „Dionysus“ als japanische Version auf dem Album enthalten.
