The carbon is placed in a refillable filter cartridge. Do not put the carbon directly into the tank. Look inside the Penguin for a rectangular grey colored "basket-like" object. Remove it and press a tab on the filter to open it. Replace the existing expended carbon material with the fresh Black Diamond Media. Reconfigure the cartridge and rinse it in fresh water to remove carbon dust. Replace it in your Penguin and wait a day or two for the water to clear.
