Had no idea what I was getting, but it's a winner
My son is a music producer but mostly uses virtual plug-ins. Thought this might be a good physical addition to his rig and it has expanded his palette in amazing directions. Once you crack the code, you have wild atmospheric sounds, cool leads, and general fun. Wish these kinds of modules were around when I was a kid; I probably would have stuck with a music career instead of the boring corporate world. This would have cost tens of thousands in the '70s. Too inexpensive to pass up today.

This is the synth module one you want! Listen to my music track.
I'm Mr.Tom, I'm a songwriter/composer under performance rights organization, BMI, Inc as well a a writer/ publisher under the Mechanical Licensing Collective (The MLC). I attached one small instrumental track recording the Behringer CAT synth multiple times using only the synth module and a separate software drum track. There is no issues with the synth module and I researched this model for weeks, before buying it. I recommend this one. - Mr.Tom

If you don't know which Behringer synth to get, get this one (not a mono synth)
I have several Behringer Analog mono synths, but what makes the CAT so awesome, is it is actually duophonic, so you can play 2 notes at once. This makes it much more versatile than the other Behringer clone mono synths. Also, it's the only one that can actually produce generative sounds. It's a bit harder to wrap your head around the layout, but once you get it down it's very fun and insanely versatile. The Behringer synths I have are the Crave, TD-3, Model D, and the CAT. I bought them in that order. If you're looking to get just one of the Behringer Clones, but don't know which one, get The CAT. I bought it last, but wish I had gotten it first. Don't get my wrong, I love all the other ones too, but The CAT is my favorite.

Chiptune (Sorta) and Much More!
It's really easy to get video game sounds out of this little box, but purists will say it doesn't count because it's not the same audio circuit as an original Game Boy or whatever, but the sound is there! You can get jazzy and soulful with it, too. I wish they'd make a MKII that's totally polyphonic, and I wish I could get my mod wheel to work with it, but there's a nice workaround for delaying the vibrato. I really love this thing! I also just got the Wasp Deluxe, and though I would pick the Cat over it, I'm very stoked on how they sound together on the same midi channel. For the price, it's amazing!

..."GLIDE" & VCO Sync Broken... But otherwise, GREAT! AMAZING SOUNDS!!!
I said it all in the title... Pitty... I returned it to Amzon.com after only one day... Got a 2nd one from Sweetwater, (which had the same 'GLIDE'-not-working issue... BUT they guarantee tech-support & replacement with a fully checked-working one, which I will get next week)..., As of now, both SYNC(s) work fine [amazing!) & I 'coaxed' some truly gnarly, earth-shattering sounds in no time out of this otherwise unassumingly/simple-looking little synth... It is a sonic treasure, really!! Only, I hope the built was sturdier... I still will give it another chance after I receive my next replacement from Sweetwater... BTW, I play it from my Lyricon WD (the vintage, 1970's purely analog wind synth controller)... AMAZING SOUNDS!!

Insanely Good Sound and Flexibility
Mind Blowing sound from this. These behringer synths are insanely good sounding. This one in particular couple extreme versatility of synthesis functionality with the best overall sound quality i've hear from their oscillator ic's apart from maybe the Pro-1 & Crave. Severely underrated. It has the maths function generator style looping ad envelope, very snappy envelopes overall. very nice filter, osc mixer section is the most versatile for complex waves of any of these vintage monosynth recreations

Best desk top analog synth with a big fat sound in a small midi package.
This new version of the Cat sounds just as good as the original keyboard edition from the 70's, at a fraction of the cost. I know because I still own an original Octave Cat and I bought one of these as a modern addition and back-up synth. Two "cats" are better than one!

So good
Like another review here I haven't actually figured out how to get midi into this thing, but I did get sound going and lost a couple of hours chasing elusive grooves and textures without any input at all. For the price of a mid range guitar pedal you get a universe of possibility. Can't wait for my patch cords and midi cable to arrive.

Unsure why this synth isn't more popular. It sounds great. It is capricious but once you figure it out, it's easy to play with. I use it for basses but I've heard it with plucks in edm and it sound great too.

As an ex owner of an original Cat synth this is pretty much a spot on copy
