This is the one, found it! I have been looking for a solid, dependable, accurate, sturdy trimmer for years now, and have spent far too much time and money on purchases that ended in major compromises or repeated returns. No more. After a lot of useless consumer grade trimmers and years of research, I found this rotary trimmer after watching a YouTube video. If you need to cut large amounts of cardstock or paper like I do, and need something that is as efficient as it is reliable, and are genuinely willing to spend what it takes (a sizeable amount) - then this is the trimmer for you. (1) This is no hobby grade trimmer - it seems to be built for commercial or heavy duty use. This is not something you put away in some shelf in the corner corner and take out every time you need it. Be prepared to dedicate some space for it. And it is heavy, so the table better be sturdy and not wobbly. (2) The placeholder thing has a sturdy screw to keep it firmly at the desired measurement. When loosened, it glides without drama until you tighten the screw at the next position. This has been a major timesaver for me. I just set it to the measurement I need and cut in bulk before setting it to the next measurement and then cut in bulk once again until I get the final dimensions I need. (3) If you get the model I have, you could actually convert this it a bidirectional trimmer - provided you follow the manufacturer's instructions to the letter (watch simple YouTube video) and take all necessary precautions for your own safety (working with blades here!). Read the various options closely before buying as this option is not available in all sizes and these features might possibly change over the years. This adjustment means that I can cut by sliding the blade up, slip the next sheet in, slide the blade down to cut again, and then back up for the next sheet of paper. So I'm essentially cutting with every pass of the blade - fewer movements and less time. (4) This thing is accurate! That's something we should be able to take for granted with any trimmer, but you'd be surprised (and then shocked, frustrated.. etc) at some of the trimmers out there. This one finally gave me the consistent accuracy that I was looking for. (5) This is NOT cheap. But it is worth the money for all the reasons mentioned above, especially to someone who cuts a lot of paper or cardstock in bulk and has wasted far too much time and money on inaccurate and lower quality junk trimmers (also found on Amazon of course). For context, I regularly cut 300 GSM heavyweight cardstock with this trimmer - but one sheet at a time. You might get a jagged edge if you try 2 sheets of 300GSM per cut - and that's overkill IMO anyway.. Thinner papers are a breeze too. The plastic band that you slip the paper under has just the right amount of tension to let a single sheet pass underneath. The only thing I would wish could be different is the location of the sliding placeholder and raised edge. Ideally, it would be on the bottom end rather than at the top (or both ends even!). With the configuration for the model that I have, I have to use the top edge for measurements if I choose to slide the trimmer blade with my right hand and use my left hand to hold the paper down. That means leaning across the entire length of the trimmer with my arm stretched out completely to reach this top edge when cutting vertically. I previously was using a guillotine trimmer, but wasn't loving it. I was so happy I switched to this trimmer. At this point I've had it for nearly a year, and I use it for maybe an hour everyday for my business. It cuts very heavy fine art paper, and still the blade is sharp and works well. If I ever have to replace this trimmer, I will be buying another rotatrim.

I was a photography teacher for 35 years, and this trimmer was our first purchase for our darkroom. It got hard use, not just trimming photos and dry mount tissue but cutting mounting boards: basically anything 1/8 of an inch thickness or less. It worked flawlessly the entire time, no adjustments or part replacements needed. I retired 14 years ago, and I suspect it is still being used by students and educators somewhere. After wasting good money on inferior products I bit the bullet and laid down the money for one of my own and have never regretted it. It’s exactly the same as the original and I'm sure my family will be using this for years after my warranty runs out. Sometimes it’s cheaper to just get the best.

Finally a trimmer that cuts straight. I have tested and returned so many trimmers that just don't cut straight or true square. I mainly got this to cut my Epson Premium Luster Photo Paper roll. It saves a lot of money to use a roll of photo paper rather than buying individual letter size sheets. But there is additional task involved in cutting it. Honestly, I almost returned this trimmer as well. The first time I tried it on this paper, while it made true square cuts, it was shredding the edge. I tried clamping the plastic clamp-strip better, or pressing on the blade holder more, this or that, all with same results. Then I flipped the roll with the photo paper facing down (before it was positioned with the logo not visible). Lo and Behold, it made a perfect smooth cut. It has been making nice clean edge cuts ever since. Now this trimmer is hefty and takes a lot of space. I actually plan on keeping it standing right side up against a wall until it is need. As you can see in my picture, my workspace is our floor. It works and I don't mind lugging it around. But it does weigh about 7kg (15 lb.) so keep that in mind when deciding to purchase this. The only annoying thing about this trimmer is I have to insert the page from right to left under the plastic clamp-strip (since it is a giant roll). Every time I do it, the paper edge catches on a slight raised surface and it is hard to feed it through. I wish that section of the board was flush. I think I can unscrew the plastic clamp-strip, feed paper through and then reattach it, but I don't want to do that each time I make a cut. I took 1 star off for that. Other than one minor annoyance, I love this trimmer. I am happy to have finally found the product that delivers what it promises. Thumbs up!

My goodness...after using crappy paper cutters for many years, what a joy it is to finally own a good quality paper cutter. I used this first for cutting square of watercolor paper to make samples, and I've used it for cutting photos for framing. It was definitely expensive, but the quality is well worth it.

Rotatrim is by far the best paper trimmer out there. Accuracy, smoothness and overall performance. This model fits a sheet of 22x17 photo paper no problem.

I use a lot of different photo paper. The RotaTrim is wonderful to trim the paper down to the size I want. It is fast and accurate at trimming the paper to a precise size and to cut large sheets of photo paper into a smaller size.
