The game looks fantastic in motion, with a variety of weather effects, the extremely detailed world of 1930’s Lost Heaven and the well animated and voice acted characters, give the game a very cinematic feel. Gameplay is very much a refined approach to the previous games third person shooting, sneaking and driving. The gunfights are satisfyingly visceral and the sound design is booming and cracking as bullets fly and explosions go off. The car chase missions are intense and bombastic with great spectacle and the variety of missions and fast pace of the game’s story will hook you. In terms of negatives there are really only a few minor gripes. One of which is that the story can feel jumpy at times with a lot of events happening off screen and I wish it was longer just because of how much I was enjoying it. It can be a little clunky at times (especially the motorcycle handling) and there is some minor graphical pop in from time to time. This is certainly one of the best remakes of the generation and is probably my favourite of the Mafia games. The story and characters are great, the gameplay is straightforward but a lot of fun and the graphical overhaul and detail and time put into it really stands out. And gun sound effects could be better the driving feels.
