Worx 20V 12" 3-in-1 Cordless String Trimmer/Lawn Edger/Mini Mower, WG170.2

I have grown weary of products that look good in the listing but then turn out to have flaws so severe that the only thing I can see fit to do is return them. Returning stuff is a hassle that I do not enjoy in the least. I am pleased to share my very positive experience with the Worx 170. The 170.2 to be more specific - this variant comes with a "fast" charger and a single 2.0 amp-hr battery. The only difficulty I have had with this product was when ordering, because for me, it wasn't easy to figure out the differences among the several Worx trimmer-edgers that are very similar. For me, the 170 is perfect, and I recommend this version (170.2) because of the itty-bitty charger that comes with the other 170 retail package. Ordering this trimmer/edger was going to be my final attempt at replacing a Craftyman (sorry for the mispelling) that I had been using for three years. It just was lousy at edging, and those Craftyman batteries are lousy, especially their small 2.0 amp-hr batteries. One of the problems I was having with the Craftyman, besides the batteries, is that it had a habit of releasing way too much string each time you released the trigger and then squeezed it again. The autofeed mechanism, shared with similar B&D trimmer/edgers, is seriously flawed. And then there was the fact that I simply could not edge a straight line with the Craftyman. This was due to the fact that you walk along beside it, which is not like most other trimmer/edgers. Anyway, getting back to the Worx 170, it was going to be my final effort, after having recently returned a B&D that had too many design flaws. To be completely honest I did not have high hopes for the Worx - the odds were about 50-50 that I wouldn't like it any more than the B&D or the Craftyman that I had been using. But, the design of the Worx 170 was sufficiently different that I decided to give it a try before throwing in the towel. And am I ever glad that I didn't give up on this small pursuit without giving the Worx a try. The differences between it and the other trimmer/edgers - the one I've owned for three years and the one I recently examined carefully and then returned - are night and day. Most all trimmer/edgers are perfectly good for trimming. It's the edging that separates the good ones from the not-so-good ones. Can you edge a straight line with it? Can you keep the cut vertical? Is the cutting efficiency good enough to cut through that thick mat of Bermuda grass that is trying to take over the driveway and the sidewalk? Does the small battery hold up long enough for it to be worth messing with? Does the line feed mechanism work as well as it needs to work? In all honesty, I was taken completely by surprise at how well it worked when I first squeezed the trigger and began to use it, and ditto with how it worked after I had edged about 250 feet and the small battery was still going strong. I was over the moon with how easy it was to edge a straight line. I was pleased as punch with how well the feed mechanism worked. And it cut through the Bermuda grass with such little effort that I doubt very much that a metal blade would do any better. Speaking of which, you can buy a small purposeful edger with a metal blade for not much more money. The only problem I have with metal blade edgers is that I don't want a bunch of chips taken out of the edge of the concrete drive and sidewalks. The Worx 170 worked perfectly. In every way. No problems of any sort. At last, I have an edger that lets me cut straight, vertical lines, and that performs at a high level in the several other aspects that matter. One thing that pleased me is that, even though I didn't have much need to reverse direction and go back over a short stretch that needed another pass, there was no problem when doing this, and it works equally well whether you pull it behind you or push it ahead of you. With the Craftyman that I've been using these past three years, I would try to move the cutting head forward a ways and then backwards a ways, but when I did this, it always moved in an arc, and whenever I tried to keep that from happening, I ended up cutting an inch or more over to the side of the line I was trying to cut. No such problem with the Worx. You're probably thinking that I got paid by Worx to write this review. Nope. No Amazon Vine, nothing of that sort. I've written my share of reviews on Amazon. The majority of my reviews are negative because when I encounter something with obvious and significant design flaws, I am motivated to let the world know. Once in a blue moon, I encounter something that is exactly what I hoped it would be. When this happens, I am happy to write a positive review like this one. Partly because it makes me feel like less of a grudge. I really, really like the Worx 170 trimmer/edger. Get the 170.2 product version with the single battery and the fast charger.

I love this trimmer. It's not as strong as some but I'm able to use it longer that 15 min at a time. it's so light weight and the feed works great. I have a big yard and it has a lot of brush, I am amazed how much this just chewed through it. I have never had a complaint with any of the works products.

I purchased the WG170.2 trimmer deal that includes one 20 volt battery and charger, plus three spools of . 065 trimmer line after reading all the great reviews. Delivery was prompt and included all items stated. I have used it three times and find it very versatile and it works pretty well. There are a few issues however. The instructions are limited and rather vague. I encountered problems adjusting from trimmer to edger and had to watch some videos which did not match up with what I had, that is, the handle could not turn to bring the top grip upright(vertical) as when trimming. I contacted customer service and was informed that the trimmer head alone moved up or down 90 degrees but not the handle shaft. This means that the vertical top grip becomes horizontal in edger mode, which is somewhat awkward. Another issue for me was the battery life which only lasted about 25minutes fully charged, although it took less than an hour to charge. The command feed also only works occasionally. Overall I have given this product a four star rating because as a trimmer it does work well and even though awkward, once you adjust your own position it edges well, plus the price paid was very reasonable and customer service was good.

I needed a lightweight trimmer that I could use easily to do spot work around trees, faucets and other trim work. This was it! It easy folds for storage into a small space, runs a long time on one charged battery, and works like a champ. The string spool looks so small but it lasts a long time, several uses around garden beds, string light poles, flower beds, faucets, etc. I also found out it is adjustable so that I can use it as a lawn mower in tight areas that I can't get the push mower in, cuts as evenly as the mower. it is super easy to change the battery and the string spool. The string spools aren't expensive either. There is nothing I don't like about it. I still use the heavy gas string trimmer for around fences trees, and equipment shed in the pastures on my farm but this one is my every day trimmer now.

Bought this to replace an old Greenworks that never fed the string right. The WORX trimmer is definitely llighter. Battery arrived with one bar and charged up fairly quickly. I wanted to edge with it but the instruction weren't clear as to how to position the head on its side. Took a while to figure out that you had to grab the head and PUSH it out in order to rotate it. The instructions weren't clear on that part. Anyway, got it set up and it worked like a charm. Very easy to follow a straight line. Also did some trimming with it and it works. The only comment I have is could they make the string spools any smaller? What gives with that? They could have been bigger. Other than that I'm happy. UPDATE: I went to use it yesterday and it kept cutting out. I figured the battery was dead but when I put it on the charger, SOLID RED which is a defective battery. Since I'm outside the return window I dreaded trying to work with the company but I was surprised. I managed to get a real person quickly, she took down the information and promptly put in an order to ship me a new battery under the six month warranty. Just now I got an email confirming shipment with delivery in two days. I have to say I'm impressed with their customer service. Not so much pleased with a dead battery in seven weeks but I guess these things can happen. Lets see going forward, but so far, very good service. UPDATE 7/7/24 The replacement battery arrived and put it on the charger and nothing, no lights, so is it bad or is the charger bad? Called WORX again and spoke with Anthony. After we got to understand each other it went very well. At first he wanted me to take the battery to Home Depot and ask them to charge it? No Thanks on that one. So after some discussion, he sent me a new charger and another battery. They arrived yesterday and IT WORKS! Even the first battery that the charger said was defective now works so the original issue was the charger. In fact I opened it and there is a burn on the circuit board. I have to say WORX is a very upstanding company and I would clearly say that they stand behind their products. Now that I have three batteries, I guess I'm gonna have to buy more of their tools. This is really nice. I'm a senior woman, and the weight of it is nice and light. Holds a pretty long charge. And the string also. I would definitely recommend it.

Hysterical. Unless you plan on trimming one blade of grass at a time. FORGET this thing. Even if the flimsy spools of cord stayed on for longer than a minute before flying off and making a tangled mess…, the pretend concept of push button line release that doesn’t work, doesn’t matter because the spool doesn’t stay on long enough to need more line. Waited too long to use so can’t send back. It now sits poking out of garbage can. Never got as far as trimming even 20 yards An entire box of spools (at extra cost) never stayed on long enough to get any more done. You are far better off using a pair of kitchen scissors.

Nice Trimer/Edger! Purchased my Worx WG170 7 months ago. Was leery about purchasing a Worx tool. My Black & Decker had issues and needed to be replaced. Talked to my neighbor who had a Worx. He Highly recommended it. Is easy to use. Edges and trims well. Does everything most home owners need. Easy to install the line cartridge. The battery lasts me about 25 or so minutes. This unit comes with a fast charging battery and charger. Takes about an hour to charge. Well Worth the Money. Note I did have an issue with the unit. Called Worx and they took care of issue. Excellent customer service!

This unit is everything that I expected of it. Only issue the spare spools. We’re unraveld on able to use them but the machine works excellent very happy.

The machine works well but the battery does not last long at all, would definitely need two batteries if you have a lot of cutting.

Easy to setup, and it also work with the battery 3525.
