Connects my iPad Air 5th Generation to my Dell XPS 8940 perfectly.
The built in port on my Dell XPS 8940 could not provide enough power to charge my iPad Air 5th Generation - resulting in a power surge error. The card was easy to install and my XPS had a spare SATA power cable that I used for the additional power required. This card solved my problem and does a perfect job - thank you StarTech!

Great High Throughput Port Expansion for PCs
Great for increasing the amount of ports your PC has available. Only requires a PCIEx4 3.0 Lane thus rather versatile and can fit in multiple different slots

Easy way to upgrade a lower spec. computer, if you not using a graphics card.
Not a cheap item, but necessary to bring an older case up to date with a modest new micro ATX board and processer. It was intended to replace my wife's older computer, stuck on Win 10, but after Windows 11 turned into Winslop 11, I have installed Zoran 18 Linux instead. I have been very pleasantly surprised how much better the latest versions of Linux have now become. I may yet give the computer to her to use, but I'm enjoying my play time with it at the moment.

Easy to fit expensive for what it does.
It’s an expansion card and uses a motherboard slot it requires to use PCIe x 4 slot so in many case will use a full 16 slot if not occupied. The card was immediately recognised by windows 11 pro and no driver required. The card only provides 2 ports of USB-c and advertises 10gb/sec. On each port. I tested the device on each port with a 20gb cable and usb-c NVME SSD . On a standard USB 3 port the SSD will achieve 448mb/sec on a good day. Using the card port the device achieved 1086mb/sec upload and download so 2.5 times the speed of USB 3 - A ports. That is half the advertised speed of the SSD using its own 20gb/sec USB-C . there are newer 20gb/sec cards available being slightly more expensive and with more usb-c sockets .

Perfect for Quest 2!
Bought to run an Oculus Quest 2 with Link cable as my motherboard and graphics card didnt have a Type C port. Easy to install and Quest 2 worked a treat.

Works, but it’s not what I paid for
I purchased the StarTech PEXUSB312C3 expecting an ASM3242-based card (as printed on the chip), but Windows consistently identifies it as an older ASM2142 controller. This mismatch means the card does not perform as advertised: with the Microsoft driver it only runs at USB 2.0 speeds, and the ASMedia driver/firmware tools fail because the hardware ID does not match. When I raised this with StarTech support, they disengaged once I pointed out the discrepancy between the printed chip (ASM3242) and the reported device ID (ASM2142). In short, the product appears to be mislabelled or shipped with incorrect firmware, leaving customers without the performance they paid for.

Potential Motherboard Breaker
I thought this thing nearly fried my motherboard. I would install with extreme caution.

If you want to run a solid Oculus link with VR and be able to power it while you use it. You gotta get this card. I was trying to get away with not buying one and just charge my headset and plug it into a USB power jack and see how long it'll last. It ended up running out of battery in the middle of gaming and panicking to figure out how to rejoin the group was a challenge as I would have to plug my headset into the wall and needed to run Air link which is highly unreliable in my location with lots of interference. I bought this card after much research and solid reviews and it did exactly what i needed! Plugged my headset cable directly into it and it reads it perfectly, quickly, and keeps it powered with no more down time! Love my VR set up now.

Looking at the review it's a mixed bag of good and bad. For me it works as it should. Provides power to charge my oculus Quest 3. Installed on windows 11.
