HDR is an amazing technology
Review of Toshiba TF-55A810U21 55-inch Smart 4K UHD with Dolby Vision and DTS TruSurround TV - Fire TV Edition - Limited Version Purchase Date: 29 MAY 2020 Initial Review Date: 4 JUN 2020 Initial Impressions I had an older 49in TV which had a backlight failure, so I was looking for a TV of equal or slightly greater size. I found this TV on Amazon and took a shot on it. When it arrived, it was packaged quite well. I took it out of the box and plugged it in immediately after checking the screen with a flashlight for damage during shipment. The TV powered on and the screen was not broken; a good start. I mounted the TV (it includes the screws to do so and recommends an M6 screw on the back of the unit) and found out you cannot do this mounting on your own. I had to hold the TV while my son connected all the inputs into the back of it. This TV is bulky, weighing around 32lbs. I was afraid that I would break it trying to get it mounted. Thankfully, I didn’t. Once mounted, we turned on the TV and began the initial setup. I plugged in an ethernet cable into the back of the TV (Ethernet still provides more stability and speed than Wi-Fi) and waited as it updated twice. I signed into my Amazon account and then began exploring the picture quality of the TV Picture Quality My old set was a 1080p 49in TV without HDR. Even without 4k content, HDR makes a remarkable difference in the quality of the image, even in resolutions as low as 720p. Without seeing it in person it’s hard to adequately describe, but there is a sense of life in the image that wasn’t there prior. Not being familiar with it, I started to get a little motion sick; but once acclimated I began to appreciate just how much more detail HDR actually gives to an image; even in older movies. Certain elements in the foreground seem to pop out, making the image look almost three-dimensional. It’s a really neat effect which is enhanced even more when 4k content is played. Fire TV Software I’m not a fan of Fire TV, having owned an original device I found that it lacks storage and it doesn’t seem to have as much polish as its competitors. However, the implantation on this TV isn’t that awful. The TV itself has 4.27GB of storage with around 2.02GB available after installing a couple of apps (YouTube TV, Disney+, Hulu, Fandango Now, Netflix). I don’t have a terrestrial antenna hooked up to the TV so I cannot comment on those features but there is a channel guide that pulls its information from Pluto TV, which I thought was a pretty cool add; especially since Pluto TV is free to use. I’d like to see more integration sources such as YouTube TV or Sling, but Pluto TV has a lot of content in and of itself. The channel guide and other quick settings can be summoned by holding down on the home button. This works when playing content or when just at the main screen of the TV. I enabled CEC so that my other devices could control the TV, but I found out that my particular model of soundbar, connected to the optical port of the TV, is unable to be controlled by the TV remote. Bummer. I’m hoping that could be addressed in a future software update, but maybe my naïveté is showing. Conclusion This TV is an excellent value for the price. Its picture quality is astounding and the Fire TV software is neat, but not anything to write home about. I’m disappointed I can’t control my soundbar with the TV remote but the picture quality of the TV more than makes up for that shortcoming.

Great TV!
This TV is amazing for the price! Before purchasing this TV, you have to decide what you want in a TV. If you want the newest tech and high end features, keep looking. However, if you're like me and just want a nice TV that can do most things, this is it! The picture looks great and the operation of the TV is fairly easy and intuitive. We have an Amazon Fire TV stick and lately have been experiencing issues that are temperature related. This TV has built-in Fire TV and it operates smoothly and quickly. Also, the Fire TV portion detects my NAS and I can access all of my movies very easily. No issues yet! Note: the only thing I would negatively mention are the speakers. The sound is ok but not the greatest. We are deciding on if we want to get a sound bar or not. Bass and treble can be adjusted within the settings.

Great TV! Especially for the money
I bought a new TV for my guestroom. The question was... Is this going in the guestroom, or will it replace the one in my bedroom. The rest of this review is comparing this TV to my TCL Roku TV. Picture quality : I never use the factory settings and like to set everything manually. The best way to do this is having an input (like cable /satellite) so you can see what changing a setting does. Once I got everything the way I like it, it was close to the TCL. But the TCL is a little brighter and sharper. Winner: TCL Sound: Fire TV has many options for setting sound. If I had external speakers, it would make a huge difference. But even using the built-in speakers, it's noticeable. No contest. Winner: Fire TV Apps: Since I much prefer Fire TV to Roku, I have a Firestick plugged into my TCL. Thus, it's exactly the same. Winner: Tie Ease of use: the whole reason I wanted to try this in the first place. Not only do I have one fewer remotes to deal with, but it's MUCH easier to switch between satellite TV and streaming. No contest. Overall winner: Fire TV No, it doesn't compare to my Sony OLED in the living room, but this was literally 1/10 of the price! It's decided, the Fire TV is going in the master bedroom 😁

Great TV for the price
1st off, my TV was delivered to my front porch 19 hours after purchasing. Amazing service. Box was in pristine condition along with a friendly delivery. Upon opening, everything was intact, mainly the screen. I also sweat ordering TV's off the internet afraid the screen will get busted along the way. Everything was just as it was loaded at the factory. I use the Firestick and the set up for the TV didn't take 3 minutes if that. Piece of cake, and the picture was great. I was really liking this new toy. I watched it a lot the first 3 days, but on day 4, out of the blue, the picture went black, but I still had sound. I figured it was the station I was watching so changed to another channel, and the same thing. Black screen. Then the sound went out. So I unplugged it, re-plugged and rebooted, and it came right back up. But it still bothered me as to why this happened on a brand new unit. A couple hours later, it did it again. Unplugged, re-plugged and rebooted and it came back like nothing had happened. It did this 4 times within a few hours. Not good. The next day it worked literally all day. (I'm retired and home a lot so yeah, the tv stays on most of the day) But late in the day, it cut off again. That's when I said enough's enough. I'm sure it's probably just a little $5 part that needs replacing, but I didn't want the hassle of dealing with that, so took advantage of the 30 day return policy and just returned it. I purchased a Samsung tv from Amazon and so far, so good. I really did like this tv before experiencing problems. One thing I noticed was the sound of the tv was better than any I ever had. I do use a A/V receiver for movies and certain programs, but for the most part just use the tv sound. I did modify the sound by upping the bass. (I forget what they call it in the menu, but it really helped) So even though I had to send it back, and did replace it with another make, I did like this tv and felt it was by far a good deal for the money. And I do recommend it. I know I just got a bad one, or at least one that had a bad part. This tv had great reviews, and over 20,000, of which I read a good hundred of them before pulling the switch. Just a shame it had to be returned.

Great picture quality, poor performance and buggy as hell.
This was an amazing TV, for 2 months. While I still use it and the picture quality or excellent, it just runs WAY too slow and takes forever to load apps. I know my internet isn’t the issue because the router is next to the TV and I even bought an extra cable to connect it directly to the TV. Another issue is the screen starts to bug and lines appear on screen so I have to turn it off and restart which is very frustrating since it happens way more often than it should. This clearly isn’t built to last long term with all the problems it has so until I get a new TV, this one is ok. Overall I’m very underwhelmed and highly recommend a different brand.

Great TV. Super price.
I bought this as a replacement for a smaller fire TV made by another company. The picture on this Toshiba is better, although I didn’t think that was possible because the other picture seems good. All of the features I need are there. It was easy to set up and I haven’t had one moment of problems with it. I found a second remote on Amazon so that my husband and I both have our own remote and life is pretty good, at least as far as our television is concerned.

Defective product. Disfunction between Best Buy and Amazon!
Purchasing from Best Buy DIRECTLY is a great experience. BUT purchasing products from Best Buy through Amazon is a TERRIBLE experience. I don't know if this was an experimental relationship between Amazon and Best Buy, but it was a failure. I ordered this "Deal of the Day" TV thinking I was getting a good deal, but it arrived with hardware and software issues. Inputs from the remote would be delayed by 7 to 10 seconds on the screen, any streaming video would be completely black for the first two minutes, and when video finally did come through it had terrible ghosting and artifacts. We tried updating the firmware and running available updates, but the problems were ultimately confirmed by Geek Squad to be a problem with the TV itself. The WORST part of this experience was in trying to get ANY help from Best Buy's tech support and in getting a refund for the TV. Any time I mentioned this product came through Amazon or when they saw the order was an Amazon order they would IMMEDIATELY stop communication with me and tell me to contact Amazon. For the past two months - AFTER Best Buy had picked up the TV for return - I have attempted to get a refund, and I was directed back and forth between Amazon and Best Buy, both sides telling me there was nothing they could do and that I had to work it out with the other. SUPER frustrating. In the end, it wasn't until I pointed out that the bank transaction for this purchase came from Amazon, not Best Buy, that Amazon finally issued me a refund. I purchased a new TV from Best Buy directly, and had great service am extremely happy with the product. But I will never buy anything from Best Buy through Amazon again! (Nothing against either company, they just DON'T work well together)

Best 43 inch 4k TV for $229!
I gave this TV 5 stars, becuase it is the best 4k TV on the market for the money! Yes! There is better 4K TV's, but you are going to have to spend a lot more! This TV is very bright and works well for dark rooms and my bedroom is very dark and I have it on a TV stand that rolls up to the bed. I am not a fan of smart TV's and wish I could shut the interface off, but you can't buy non smart TV's anymore. I always buy a TV and put a Roku Ultra box on it anyway, since it is the best streaming device you can get. The interface is really slow and lagging and has very little storage space for much. I disabled and deleted everything I could since I don't even use the interface anyway, except to switch inputs. I took a screenshot of the storage and I actually ran out of storage on my 2019 Fire TV, even with a USB drive added, becuase you can't move apps to the USB drive to clear up internal storage. If you use a lot of apps, I would recommend putting a roku or fire stick on it? Besides that, the picture and sound is awesome! Bottom line, if you looking for low cost extra TV for a bedroom or a small dark room, this is perfect. But you are looking for a main TV for a your family room, I would look at a LG or a Samsung OLED.
