Logical Addition our Foodsaver FFS017
The grown-up, top of the range FFS017 vacuum sealer has been a much used and welcome kitchen gadget, primarily for long-term freezer or chilled/ambient storage predominantly utilising the rolls, at suitable lengths and the bags. The integrated hand held sealer is, as stated on the tin, great with the zipper bags and the containers. However, for shorter-term, almost every-day use, such as prepared salad items stored under vac in the fridge in appropriate sized containers, the big boy mains sealer is slightly irritating, as it stored in a cupboard when not in use, has to be bought down, plugged in, used, and put away again โ perhaps for one container or zipper bag. The handheld cordless on the other hand, sits happily and discreetly in its charger, is ready for immediate use, and performs well on the containers and zipper bags. Though possibly less powerful than the mains powered FFS017, if the usage instructions/advice are followed does the job it is intended for adequately and with less fuss than its big brother. Would recommend this to anyone that is serious about vaccing for storage and daily use. As a bonus of course, food waste, of which so much seems to generated unnecessarily, is considerably reduced.

Excellent item for storing food
Absolutely brilliant. I have a full size Foodsaver unit and the bags cost ยฃ16 so this is a fantastic deal as you get a separate container as well. Perfect for keeping numerous items fresh for longer, and the container is excellent for maintaining the quality of salads.

So far very happy
So far very happy, works on my existing FoodSaver containers as well as vacuum bags. Only issue indicator light doesn't go off or change when fully charged and no indicator of charge level when in use, but otherwise works well.

Expensive but worth it
I have an old fashioned rolled plastic-type vacuum sealer that because of it size, rarely gets used, so when I saw the cordless FoodSaver I decided to give it a try. The main unit is very small at around 3cm square footprint, including the charging dock. This means it can sit on the worktop without taking up valuable space - and is always there, ready to go. The mains plug for the charging dock is a small integrated into the plug type which is small enough to not block other sockets when used in a power strip. The pack includes a medium-sized clear plastic container and 10 medium-sized vacuum bags. This gives enough to get you hooked in vacuum sealing without having to immediately spend more. The bags are easy to seal - put what you want inside them and push out most of the air by hand before initially sealing the double to seal. Then put the sealer unit over the one-way valve (it is very flat) and press the top of the sealer down until a good vacuum is created. The sealer does not stop when the vacuum is there, so you have to just pull the sealer off. The plastic containers are a crystal clear plastic and fairly thick, with tops that are shaped to allow stacking of other containers. To use this you press down on the top of the container and put the vacuum sealer over the centre green pressure valve. Since there is no change in the shape of the container when the vacuum is pulled, there is a small dome that pulls inwards when the vacuum is there. This also gives an indication of if the vacuum has held. There are a couple of negatives I have found. The first is that the push button of the sealer seems to stick a little when held down, and needs pulling slightly to stop it (or leave it for around 5-10 seconds after removing it and it will stop itself). The second is the plastic containers. In my experience (I have a few now), most are really good but I do have one that will pull a vacuum fine but within 30 minutes will have lost the vacuum. Others have held it for days with no sign of the vacuum failing. Unless you need to stack containers, I would personally recommend using the bags though. They are washable and reusable and I have yet to have an issue with any of them. For those wondering, you can use the sealer on none FoodSaver bags too (I have tried VacBird) as long as they have a similar type of vacuum valve in the bag. I haven't found any that are cheap though - all of them seem to be quite expensive for a bag.

Small but mighty but the battery indicator and charging situation is not good
Although the main function of this device works well it doesn't get the high marks I expected it would get from a Foodsaver product. I have another one of these devices from another brand. A bit larger and a bit more powerful but essentially the same thing. This has a smaller vaccum seal opening and this actually seems help on resealable zip vacuum bags better than my larger device. As with the other vacuum I have which has fancy lights that serve no purpose it does have a few essential things this doesn't have. So 1. Charging/Charge level indicator. So this device has neither. It doesn't tell you how much charge it has. It also doesn't tell you how much charging time is left. Also importantly it doesn't tell you when it's fully charged. So you're never going to now how charged it is and as in the second point you'll see why I think that's problematic. 2. It requires 24 hours to charge the first time of use otherwise this could detrementally effect the battery long term and needs to be charged for 24 hours every 6 months. Thankfully I read that small but very important piece of information on page 8 of a 14 page manual (This should have been a little sticky note on that actual device as I would consider that important information). So going back to my first point. You'll never know what the charge is of this device and as it takes such a long time to charge if it runs out of charge just when you need it, don't expect to me using it again for a very long time because it charges very slow. I'm not sure how old this device is but those are the type of battery characterics you used to get on devices more than a decade ago. Also 24 hours to charge I think is excessive in 2024. I'm not sure when this device was first released but it must be very old with those charging times. That's like the charging times of an early 2000 device. So for some pros: It's very quiet and and for it's size powerful. I don't think it's apparant just how small it is from the pics. It's tiny and can almost fit in the palm of your hand. So although I don't think the negatives outweigh the positives it certainly could have been much improved.

Very powerful
Love this little gem. Yes it does have an old battery type but if used correctly will serve you well. Charge for 24hrs before using it! This Conditions the battery, then unplug it. Do not keep in the charging block whilst plugged in as this will ruin the battery. I've been using mine constantly for a few weeks and it is very powerful. When it starts to slow down or run low charge again for 4-6hrs. Charge for 24hrs only every 6 months. I think it was really cheap considering the container alone is over ยฃ25 and the bags are also quite pricey although I use the cheaper ones which work well with this machine. It works very well with both of my containers and also with my mason jar accessory. Brilliant little machine that's still going strong after repeated uses. I've dropped it a few times but is built to last. Definitely recommend, throw it in the kitchen drawer..it's tiny. Very versatile, I use on bags, containers and my mason jars.. I do have a big vacuum sealer but love that I don't have to lug it out just to reseal a bag.

What a total shame
This could have been such an amazing product - the container that arrives with the vacuum pump actually works well and keeps the vacuum without any faults, however, FoodSaver have updated their containers and the new models are simply useless - all failing within hours. FoodSaver's support isn't much use either - suggesting you check the "rubber seal" (a small rubber gromit in the lid is all that seems to keep the vacuum) and otherwise give you a reference number (that seemingly means nothing to Amazon) and advise to contact Amazon. Fortunately, I was within the return period and all are going back as faulty. It's a complete shame as the product clearly was decent and yet they've turned it into something that's useless. If you look closely at the reviews - particularly of the additional containers (unless you only want one, it's worth checking) then you'll see that there are dozens of complaints about the same issue. FoodSaver don't seem particularly bothered or would presumably offer a fix or a replacement rather than simply suggesting you return the product.

Food Saver hand held shopping experience
I had this gadget for over a year and loved it so I bought 4 of these for Xmas presents. I was disappointed that when my family and friends opened their present they found a UK power plug rather than the Aussie plug. It was embarrassing for me as they could not use the gift for quite some time and also they had to go and buy an adaptor. If I knew this before ordering I would have bought them from an Australian supplier but then I thought that Amazon au is an Australian supplier maybe the adaptor should have been included in this case. The product itself is fantastic & once my family & friends got the adaptor they loved it too, I just hated the embarrassment at the time.
