We tried the T-Ball type stitched baseballs, the heavier foam balls, and various tennis type balls. These are the best by far. They go a bit farther than the low bounce training tennis balls, but are much easier to throw due to having more weight. The really pop off the bat too but given their softness make the pitchers (that would be us adults) feel much more comfortable. I'm sure taking one in the face wouldn't feel too good but I'm sure you'd be able to just shake it off. They also seem pretty sturdy as we haven't split or cracked one yet. They are harder than a Nerf ball but softer than a hardball which is great for playing in the backyard or for kids that may not be ready to catch a hardball. My 11 year old plays in a league but still uses these balls everyday to practice.
