Awaken the Inner Shaman: A Guide to the Power Path of the Heart Paperback – March 1, 2014

This author continues to be a good guide for me in my continuing practice of Shamanic methods of healing and growth.

Having stepped onto this path a couple years ago, I have been searching for a mentor. There are a number of books about shamanism. I’ve read about half a dozen so far. Jose’ Stephens MSW PhD opens the doors like a gracious host, introducing concepts in an organized way in which to build our understanding and knowledge. Stevens even provides practices to help us find our own shamanic path and expression. I had the privilege of attending one of Jose' and Lena Stevens's retreats and, as someone else said in their book review, they are legit! The Stevens have spent most of their lives pursuing shamanic wisdom from all over the world and bring it all back to us in very accessible ways. I highly recommend!

After following the amazing site thepowerpath.com for several years, I decided to do a session with Jose Stevens, the author of this book. Being fairly pragmatic but fascinated by "new-age" materials, I've previously delved into psychic readings, energy healing, etc, and come across some solid people, some kooky-but-mildly-talented healer types... and also some straight-up weirdos.I want to stress that Jose Stevens belongs in a category all by himself- simply put, he's legit, he's the man. I was lucky enough to meet him personally and I've never encountered such a gentle, humble, and wise soul. I can honestly say that the reality of his being 100% matches the amazing wisdom he dispenses in his writings and advice. Be assured, this is a man who walks his talk and has no agenda, besides helping people find happiness and personal empowerment.As for the book...it's for anybody and everybody, so don't be turned off by the word "shaman" in the title, or blinded by the programming that may lead you to visions of mud-caked old men dancing around fires shaking rattles. Jose steers clear of dogma or judgements and focuses on how you can empower yourself with actual tools that will have you honing in on your life's power and purpose. It's a clear read, devoid of filler or pretension, but still providing enough substance, history and actual practical science to inspire you to awaken to your full potential. Read this book. ( I also highly recommend Jose's personessance materials for true students of human behavior). 5 stars all the way.

I purchased this book because I was impressed by the reviews of it. After reading it (3 times already), I feel like being a different person.Although it often speaks in shamanic terminology and from the shamanic viewpoint, its message goes directly to the heart and is addressed to every person, who feels the need for something better, something higher, as a purpose of human life.The reader may find connections to the spiritual principles and practices of other traditions, as the essence of it all is the essence of the goal of the human species.I especially appreciate the fact that the material is presented with references to contemporary sceintific ideas about the universe and our DNA.I was left with a warm hope and positive expoectation, after reading this book.It contains several suggestions for practical exercises on various levels. Everybody will find some (if not all) practices that one may begin to apply immediately. It IS POSSIBLE to help ourselves on our spiritual journey in life!

I’ve always loved this book. It was one of my favorites but unfortunately I was never able to finish it because it got stolen. I bought a new copy on here but the book was clearly used and I just found a ripped page in the book :( other than that it’s definitely worth the read.

In Awaken the Inner Shaman, José Stevens teaches ancient wisdom for modern times in a way that is easily related to the real world of today. This book has an energy, a feeling and a power that resonates all the way through it. Whether a beginner or an advanced student of shamanism or spirituality, Awaken the Inner Shaman offers easy-to-follow exercises and practices that will deepen your sense of who you are and awaken your inner spirit longing to be set free. José is a master at helping people break through their barriers to discover the depth of self that is only possible with deep work. And, he makes it fun and enjoyable at the same time. Stories told from the heart of his own journey help us to realize that we each have the ability to be more of who we truly are, if we only stop and take a moment to allow our inner shaman to assist us on our journey of life.

This book not only shed light, but brought closer my guides, angels and inner shaman onto my life. Things I had been thinking, things I had been feeling wete finally brought to light. My brother had been going through troubles and I had initially sent him this book from guidance of an angel we have been sharing he had never been a believer. but this book was easy to understand, easy to read, and easily made a difference. He still recites passages to me. I then read my copy and mY inner shaman allowed me to reach further, and truly know us as one and continue to grow together. Especially during these highly volatile times. A time for personal and spiritual growth.I'm blessed by all I've learned and joses instruction and divine guidance. Blessings to you, jose. Having done some Shamanic work in the past, I thought the "exercises" in the book a bit too simplistic. Not that they are not valid but simply put, this is not new information. I guess I was expecting more technical information but this was not the case. I think the masses do not have the privilege of traveling to exotic locations and working directly with a healer. Because of that, I was disappointed that this academic was not able to delve a little deeper and share more technical expertise for the lay public.
