Has the quality of a much more expensive compass
I bought this compass because I was unhappy with a cheaper compass I bought off of an auction site. I knew going too cheap would just give me a cheaply made product, but I didn't want to shell out over a hundred bucks for a mil-spec tritium compass. This compass is very well made (enough to satisfy this old Marine), sturdy and hefty casing is rugged and I'm confident it will withstand any disasters I might face with it. Back of compass has reference chart for angle, gradient, and distance. Compass floats nice and freely and doesn't stick, added level bubble on the compass helps get an accurate reading as you center it. Bezel ring glows in the dark, I like that the gradient inclination flap provides added protection for the compass face. Thumb loop is sturdy and it comes with a lanyard, soft case, and instruction booklet. Shipping was FAST. This is a good product for the price and with it, I see no need for the pricier models. I recommend.

High-quality exceeded expectations
This is definitely worth the money. The quality of it is amazing. The functionality of it is also really good. I have never used one before, but this one is really easy to use in the accuracy of it is excellent. Definitely worth the money and would recommend to someone else whoโs in a search of one.

Expensive, but rugged and well made.
Have not used in the field yet. This compass has no compensation so it is not for a land or water vehicle. Hinges are tight enough but not too tight. I had a small tripod with coated brass screws and aluminum legs so it does not have magnetic influence on the compass. User needs to be aware of nearby magnetic materials. Manual is very small font size. Inclinometer seems OK for degrees, using arrow point; but use right edge of vane to read grade percent. Star rate for gift suitability would depend on the recipient ability to understand the complex instructions, therefore 3 stars. I am a radio amateur (ham) and plan to use this compass to erect outdoor antennas. Perhaps also for hiking and boating. Cavers and climbers may find inclinometer useful.

Now I Don't Feel So Lost
I've recently been touring around the Southern Hemisphere, close to the other side of the Equator and realized that I have become disoriented. The Sun is not where it used to be for me in the North Hemisphere, the Big Dipper is well below the horizon and now out of my sight, there are no trees here to speak of and most winter skies are heavy overcast so I can't see the Sun or the Southern Cross. So, I tried out Google Maps, also downloaded a number of compass apps on my cell, and found out quickly that those apps are the worst on battery consumption and data usage. Great! Now I get a bigger phone bill for the data, my cell is constantly out-of-juice, no one speaks English here, and my translator is on my dead phone. Not only am I still disoriented but also feeling like "easy pickings" for the bad guys, can't call the police on my dead cell and wouldn't know what or how to say what I needed. So, I decided to purchase a dedicated magnetic compass. Actually I bought two, the Eyeskey and another one from a different seller. The Eyeskey is heavy, chunky and I love it. The other is slimmer but very heavy for its size. They both show North in the same direction. The money I save on data charges will pay for these two items quickly. Also, I can tether both devices to a couple of lanyards to make a bola to keep the "bad guys" at bay while I practice Spanish with the police on my cell phone now that I have a lot more battery life. Bottom line: For me, there is no replacement for a well-made, real magnetic compass that does not require batteries or the annoying, constant calibrations. The Eyesky I bought is a well-made multi-tool I can rely on 24/7 and it does what it says in the product description. It came with a heavy-duty, military type canvas bag to wear on the belt. The packaging was great with no harm to the other items shipped along from Amazon.

Did not make it through the first day-broken
First off, this is not a military grade compass. It looks like one, but the bezel on a military compass ratchets 3 degrees each click-this one does not. This bezel is difficult to operate-almost frozen. It has to be stiff to preserve your reading. Hopefully it will loosen with time, but not too much. It came with a "Clinometer"- a pendulum that measures inclines. The metal Clinometer is held in place by two small screws, one of which has fallen out, the other nearly so making the Clinometer useless. I don't know that I would use it- most of the time it's in the way. When closed the Clinometer blocks the compass window - you must open the compass or use the eyepiece The instructions do not clearly describe how to use the compass. The print is small but readable from my armchair-probably worthless on the trail. The "aiming line" is very narrow- hard to see- I use the notch and the handy eyepiece. The chart on the back is undecipherable. Otherwise it feels solid - easy to sight and balance. The level bubble and eyepiece are welcome additions. It comes with a lanyard and a belt mount thin pouch. Delivery was very fast. We are not serious hikers, however recently, after several hours of hiking, we came to a sign welcoming us to a park we thought we'd never left. I expected more for my money from this compass and got less.

East is least / West is best
I am too old to go hiking in any other place than the Mall. I used this compass to aid me in laying out the footprint for a new garage's concrete pad on an E/W, N/S Geographic line. It's a Compass you say? Reads in MAG headings you say? Determine the Variation in your area by consulting a pilots Sectional Chart, add or subtract the difference as necessary and you have a reasonably accurate Geographic readout. It was just a Garage layout and the concrete guys will tweak it as necessary. A Starrett 530-100 3/8" x 100' Closed Reel Steel tape measure was a necessary part of my project. Once I had the layout drawn on AutoCAD , these two items made locating the corners of the pad a snap! Old guys need something to do. The quality of this Compass surprised the heck out of me. I expected a bunch of plastic , use it few times and toss it in the recycling -- BUT NO! This little beauty is built hell for stout! This item will be around for my heirs to fight over -- and maybe theirs too? This is a QUALITY product. It is easy to read and has some features that I flat didn't expect --like the magnifier that reads degrees off of the side of the 360 Deg. floating dial while allowing you to align objects in the distance with the cross hairs of the sighting lens. For the price of a good meal you can own a compass that will help navigate your a--- out of the wilderness -- or mine, out of the Mall. CWS Maybe after the garage is built I will walk the Appalachian Trail
