How do you open the damned can?

The tin was sealed w/tape where the top and bottom edges of the tin join. I had to remove the tape in order to open the tin.

Are these different than paperclips in that they point to a specific line?

Yes they can point to a specific line. They are smaller than a regular size paper clip. I’m using them to check references in a manuscript. Hope this helps.

Do they have crosses on them?

Levenger (brand) have crosses on them. This product does NOT. I might add that Levenger's are made by CCP and Book Darts are made in USA.

Can these be used to clip just two pages of standard-thickness paper together?

They can hold 2 pages of a book. However I would not try to use them as a paperclip for loose papers.
