The BEST Espresso Machine in the PRICE RANGE
I've been enjoying coffee for almost sixty years. I've worked as a barista in my early twenties. I know my way around coffee; particularly when selecting beans; the roast; how to get the best grind using the best grinder; how to achieve the best cup of coffee using almost every conceivable method and device. These days I am prefer a delicious, smooth-bodied, crema-rich cappuccino when I wake up. Unfortunately, health concerns have limited me to just one cup of coffee a day, so I make damn sure I enjoy the best tasting espresso or cappuccino every morning. Ordinarily, I would have been using my time-tested and still reliable 1968 La Pavoni espresso machine. This machine took me over a year to master and once I had it down, no other espresso machine even came close to pulling the finest tasting espresso or caps you could drink. But the La Pavoni is a bulky and intensively time-consuming machine to use; especially in the morning once you're out of bed and your brain still isn't operating at 100% until AFTER you've enjoyed your coffee. I needed to find and purchase an interim type of counter-type of espresso machine. Oh, I will still use my La Pavoni for that special occasion, because there still isn't, in my opinion, a machine that can produce a finer tasting espresso or cappuccino than the La Pavoni. After about a month of intensive research, which included reading and evaluating every review and recommendation I could find, the Gaggia Classic Pro is the model that kept coming up as the best in its price range EVERYWHERE. And then I started looking at the Youtube videos. Almost to a video, it was the Gaggia Classic Pro that was heralded as THE espresso machine to buy in its price range. And another surprise: the Gaggia Classic Pro had been receiving this endorsement going back decades. Another big plus: Gaggia is an Italian company that has the inside scoop on coffee...that's all they do. They make coffee machines. I decided to purchase the Gaggia Classic Pro...and man oh man was this ever the right choice. It did take a couple of tries, even from this seasoned user, to appreciate all the ins and outs of this machine. The machine is far more sophisticated than it looks. But can it produce a satisfying espresso or cappuccino? And can it steam or foam up milk like no one's business (providing you know what you're doing and you don't scald your milk...and especially if you have a talent making espresso art)? I only use bottled water so as not to build up sediment inside the machine. I like to keep my equipment cleaned, well maintained, and operational at all times. You need to understand how this machine is put together in order to master all of its secrets. My suggestion is: check out the HUGE volume of Gaggia Classic Pro Youtube videos online. They will teach you everything you need to know in order to get your Gaggia to produce the type of enjoyable espresso or cappuccino you like. But you do need to understand how the boiler and the rest of the components work together if you really want to achieve the finest results from the Gaggia Classic Pro. I have paired my Gaggia Classic Pro with the latest model of Baratza's burr grinders in order to affect the perfect grind of the whole beans I use. And, by the way, I grind only the amount of beans I need for that morning's coffee. The balance of my 1Lb once a month purchase of whole beans are kept in a sealed, but valved container in order to release the CO^2 that coffee beans give off. I set the burrs to the finest possible grind setting. I have found with the Gaggia Classic Pro, one of the secrets is to NOT tamp down the coffee to the point of a severe compression. Make sure the amount of coffee is evenly dispersed and then lightly tamp it down. Don't forget to run hot water through the group head in order to preheat it. I also recommend purchasing an inexpensive hand held timer. You'll need it. You'll understand why after viewing many of the Youtube videos featured about the Gaggia Classic Pro. When you're ready to make your cup, place a preheated cup under the group head and let 'er rip. When the light goes off, press the OFF button. Then follow the Youtube recommendations for using the steam wand, otherwise you will run out of pressure before you obtain the type of steamed or foamed milk you need. And make sure you clean off the steam wand IMMEDIATELY after use and then let a blast of steam go through the wand to unclog it on its inside. And always use bottled water. NEVER use tap water with a Gaggia Classic Pro. If you do, your machine will die an early death in a couple of years instead of lasting a couple of decades. I recommend the Gaggia Classic Pro with a full five star rating. It is, without any doubt, the finest espresso machine anyone can purchase in this price range. It offers superior workmanship made from superior components and materials; it is a remarkably well-engineered device; it is an attractive model to place on your kitchen counter; it is easy to clean and maintain; and it will produce for you the tastiest espressos and cappuccinos at home for you to enjoy.

La mejor
First of all, I want you to know that I am not paid or given anything for free for this. Also, know that if you have no problems with plastic or other foreign materials and automatic machine and save time, this is not your machine. Knowing this, I wanted a pure machine with healthy and durable materials with extreme quality and extraordinary coffee extraction and with a professional rod and a price that I could pay, that's where this machine won because for me it had everything I was looking for, I read all the negative comments that this machine had on Amazon and in forums I have checked them all and for me nothing to see is a quality coffee machine in every way. I am not a barista or anything like that, but I really like the espressos and drinks that I prepare, although it takes a lot of learning and play with the machine so that you can do everything right and that the machine performs at 100%, I have already prepared vevidas and machine does not lose strength or anything like that, but as I say, it takes play with it to find the times, but it is something I like and enjoy trial and error. As you can see in my photo, I have nothing, only what comes with the machine, no modifications or anything when I have my coffee station complete, I will upload an update of this machine without filter or anything, just the real thing, if you want the best of the best, this is your machine.

Bang for your buck espresso machine
Best espresso machine purchased, insane quality and durability. The coffee is fantastic all the time. Only issue I found was that it is a bit tough to lock the Portafilter from the get go as the new seal is tough and needs to be adjusted or used a few times for it to successfully allow the Portafilter to lock all the way. It is quiet in comparison to other machines. And fits well in a small place.

Game changer for coffee enthusiasts
I've had this machine for a little over six months and it's absolutely killer. I've changed up my routine entirely since then and only drink espresso-based drinks. It's never had an issue, it is not a complicated machine to use, and for the price it is an amazing upgrade to daily life. The only room for an upgrade that I would even consider is to have a unit with a double-boiler, because using the steam wand does take quite a bit of time to transition, especially given that the steaming function may be a tad bit weak compared to commercial models, which nuke your milk compared to this machine. Some tips for anybody a bit new to this as I was: 1.) Make sure to purchase a quality grinder alongside it. If you're going to use this machine properly, the grind size absolutely MUST be dialed in, and can be very frustrating if you're trying "pre-ground espresso" or working with a grinder not capable of these fine grinds. 2.) If making multiple drinks, always pull espresso first, then steam your milk for all of the drinks. As the machine operates either at shot-pulling temp or steaming temp, you must prep your drinks in this order, you will do a lot of waiting for the boiler to change temps otherwise. 3.) Get a back flush basket for your portafilter. This is pretty crucial maintenance, it keeps your machine circulated and minimizes the oils sitting at the group head. Though you'll have to take that apart and clean it occasionally (super easy prev.maint. as well) 4.) Give your steaming function some time. While the steamer may not build up as much pressure in as little time as some other models... it still builds great pressure, but with more time. Give it a couple of minutes after you've started the steamer function to use it, and you'll be able to start actually getting results on your latte art/cappuccino foam quality. 5.)Check out the inline community. It's got one of the most extensive modding and support communities as far as I know, and there are people creating full-blown builds on this specific model. Thid may be the way if you start really locking in on the most quality coffee in the world - I dare say that this machine is capable of it. For the price of the actual unit, you can NOT beat the quality. Sure, it takes a bit of finnicky adjustment when it comes to workflow, especially for multiple guests. But like any machine, it can be optimized to your routine, and you can start really kicking ass in the mornings. It will impress family, roommates, and yourself once you lock in this niche hobby. You will not regret it, and at the end of the day, you will save SO much friggin money after the initial cost. Even with its trivial shortcomings, 5/5 product well done Gaggia. You will not return this.

Good in its price range, but requires more cleaning and maintenance than I had expected
12 months review: I am fairly happy with my Gaggia Classic Pro. I make about 2 to 4 Lattes a day unless I am traveling. Overall I am fairly happy but there are a few issues. Issues: (1) My machine did not push water through the portafilter after 1 year. I had descaled the machine once, but I had not back-flushed the machine regularly (weekly?). Diagnosing this issue, I also learnt that I should have cleaned the group head probably every 2 or 3 months using Cafiza and a brush. The required cleaning seems to exceed my expectations. (2) My steam wand leaks when I heat up water. I have not diagnosed this issue yet, but that is a bit disappointing, I feel, after one year. The next two issues are minor, but still a bit of a mood killer: (3) When I lifted the machine off my kitchen counter, one of the 4 rubber stands popped off. Not a big deal as I simply popped it back in. But I was a bit surprised. (4) Another minor gripe: The Gaggia Classic Pro sign is not fixed but wiggles on the machine. Just a bit sad for any manufacturer that takes pride in their product. Overall, I am okay happy as the coffee tends to be tasty. I continue to believe the machine is probably one of the best in its price range. The machine is okay, but not exceeding my expectations. More maintenance and cleaning than I had expected.

Started good but went very bad, Questionable handling of the boiler issue on this model
UPDATE 2/2025: My machine was impacted by the flaking boiler coating (google Gaggia evo boiler issue). I sent this fact along with all my info needed to confirm I was impacted and under warranty - They responded quickly, but I received a form letter in response that ignored all the information I provided and re-requested the same info I already included in my initial request (including that I did in fact have the flakes as an active issue). It is also my opinion that they strongly implied third parties that did testing for them were responsible for the boiler issue. They further implied that the machine was "safe" but they would replace it with a machine they (and likely the third party) had confirmed was also safe if the flaking occurred. You see the issue here... I replied asking what I was actually going to get as a replacement - same coating, aluminum boiler with no coating (not what I paid for), or something else - and that responses is still pending. So, based on the letter I received that was clearly driven by the lawyers and the lack of response to my follow-up questions - I now question the company as a responsible company. My guess is the lawyers are driving this as they have not done a recall or contacted known owners, and I am known to own the impacted unit as I had to register to get a missing 1 shot basket when I first bought this unit. I have now purchased a new machine from another manufacturer (Bezzera) and could not be happier with that machine. I am going to go ahead and get the replacement from Gaggia as my original machine does me no good in its current state. But this experience has changed my opinion of Gaggia as a company. The customer service was great, but their company polices have damaged their brand in my mind. *** Initial Review Below **** I have been roasting my own beans for over a decade and have historically used fully automatic espresso machines to save time/mess in morning. I recently decided to get some experience with a manual machine and started looking at several significantly more expensive machines than this Gaggia with PID, thermo-blocks/Double boilers, etc. based on feedback across the internet. I am VERY happy with my decision to go with the Gaggia. The $'s I saved were handy to more than cover the cost of additional accessories (tamper, bottomless filter, grinder, etc). that I required to make the move to manual. The machine… I am pulling great shots that far better than my previous machines made. Simple to use and has a 58mm portafilter. Switching from brew to steam on this machine is not an issue at all (was one of my concerns). By the time I am done cleaning the portafilter the steam is ready. I am now thinking this might be my long-term machine. I know there are people that will say you need a much more expensive machine to get a great espresso, but I find this machine to meet my needs and to have quality of build to last. I typically make 2 cappuccinos at a time and this machine is more than up to the task. I also like the ability/availability of mods this machine if I decide I want more "features" in the future. NOTE: the Gaggia Classic Pro comes with the 9 bar spring that many say is a must modification on the original. That said, what really stood out for me is this... My box was missing the single shot basket. The website said it was included, the manual said it was not included. I don't do single shots so this was not a big issue for me. But, I fired off an email to Gaggia customer service to see what would happen as I was not going to go through the hassle (time without machine) of an amazon return just to maybe get a filter basket I dont plan on using very often (ie. I didn’t know if it was missing from the box or was a product change). My email to Gaggia was responded to in 1 business day and a new filter basket is on its way free of charge without any hassle. These days customer service can be iffy at best, my experience with Gaggia has been a very pleasant surprise.

Great machine, looks like it's built to last
I've had this machine for a few weeks now. The reason I chose this was because I was looking for a machine that would last me awhile, rather than breaking down every few months. With research, many say this machine with consistent maintenance will last me a few years. Now, first impressions? I'm a literal amateur at coffee. I started off from a Keurig, to Nespresso, to Mr. Coffee (big regret) to now this. So yes, the learning curve is HUGE. In the beginning pulling the portafilter across takes MANPOWER. Had to hug the machine to lock it in, but recently it's gotten easier to pull so maybe it's just about "breaking it in". This Gaggia pulls the best espressos I've ever had. With the Mr. Coffee Coffeehouse machine, I thought my beans were the problem as it was constantly bitter even after dousing cream and sugar but it turns out it was the machine itself. With this Gaggia, I drink the same beans WITHOUT sugar which for me is a big deal. The steaming took a few tries to get the hang of but I'm getting there. I had to watch a couple videos on how to use the machine properly as the instructions aren't entirely clear. UPDATE: 3 months later. Noticed a little slow extraction issue and decided it was time to decalcify, but other than that, no issues. My sentiment about this machine has remained the same. For its price point it does a great job pulling a shot of espresso. If you're a newbie like i was (and still am!) with this machine you'll need to take time to learn the nuances otherwise you WILL get frustrated with sour shots. Here's what I've noticed and recommend if you want to stick with this machine 1. This machine is "buildable". It's one of the attractive features where you have total control over the machine, and can add/remove things such as a better IMS shower screen, a PID, a lower OPV bar spring, etc. These things in total will cost you an additional $150 though. I did it because this machine is known to last so I personally think it's worth the investment. But if you don't feel comfortable buying a machine and spending more for additional parts maybe this one isn't for you. 2. Mentioned it in #1 BUT GET A PID!!! i hated temp surfing to find the optimal brew temperature, and a MrShades PID helped regulate not only brew temp, but the steam as well. No more losing steam power in the middle of steaming! Fair warning, if you're not tech savvy, you may end up taking a few hours to install the PID. It was a little confusing and I ended up taking about 2 days (6hours total) to install it. 3. For those that complain the shots are too slow, what's your definition of slow? There's so many factors you need to consider here when it comes to extraction time; grind size and consistency, tamping, beans, etc. A double shot should come out at about 20-30sec. Any slower/faster more often results in bitter coffee. Again if you're new to espresso please read some forums it will tremendously help you get better shots. There are subreddits and Facebook pages that have a Gaggia Classic community filled with helpful people. Overall, for the value of this machine, it's the best you're going to get. Obviously if you spend $1000, you'll get a thousand dollar quality machine. You're spending less than $500, you'll get $500 quality machine. The GCP is a very good product for $450 considering other brands at the same price range. I'll update this every now and then because I want to make sure this is a long-term commitment. Update: Over a year later 3/4/2022. Machine is still going strong! Regular maintenance is a must, but overall, extremely happy with my machine. Only downside is now that when I make coffee for guests it can be tedious to wait for the boiler to heat up/cool down, for several cups, but that's all just party tricks.

Great cuppa!
Makes a great coffee. Just watch some videos about how to get the best out of it. Takes a little practice from being a novice. Love how I can now have better coffee at home than from a coffee shop

Absolutely worth it
I wanted to upgrade to an adult espresso machine from the Breville Cafe Roma (who served me with amazing espresso for the last 12 years and still going strong) upon reading MANY reviews, I opted for the Gaggia Classic Pro. I grind my own beans in an antique cast iron coffee grinder and prefer it over electric grinders so I just wanted a simple espresso machine without all the bells and whistles. I got exactly what I asked for. This machine is efficient and simple to operate. It yields a rich espresso with a thick crema. My Cafe Roma always pushed out an amazing espresso but this is a totally different ball game. The machine stands in its own. It is made of heavy duty material and is also easy to clean. I have ZERO complaints and would definitely buy it again if I could go back in time.
