The Watchers: The Angelus Trilogy

What a great story. Steele writes brilliantly, his characters jump off the page and pull you along. The plot does not appear until somewhere near chapter 6 or 7, but you're so intrigued by the interesting people that you just can't put it down. Thrilling suspense and mysterious mysteries weave our characters together into an intricate tapestry that pits ancient evils against all mankind. Our only hope for survival is a man with no memory beyond waking in his hotel room 6 weeks ago. I absolutely LOVED this book!

The author was very descriptive. I felt like I was right there in Luasanne, Switzerland. The villages, the lake, the cafe , Hotel, and especially the Cathedral were described with great accuracy. At first the character development seems a bit overdone. However you really get to know the three main characters and develop an emotional commitment to all of them and each if their stories.The young man( Marc) who watchers over the cathedral will simply break your heart! His conversations with the bells and his cat are full of heartfelt meaning. The author can write about both the innocence and evil in life with great clarity. I actually liked the first half of the book better than the last half.It became a race against time with many events, places, and artifacts, used to solve the mysteries.There are similar comparisons to a Dan Brown book. The whole concept of the war of the angels and the downfall or loss of grace with God followed by the judgement is the main theme of the book. That in itself is not a new plot line. But if you like the Angels/ Demons fight you will like this book! I' m looking forward to the next book!

"The Watchers" is an interesting novel. It was a bit difficult to get into because it jumped around a lot in the beginning. The relevance of these early chapters does not become clear until you are well into the novel. At that point, it neatly falls into place. Along the way you connect with the characters and become involved with their activities and emotions. You are slowly drawn into the story in such a way that you want to keep on reading. I would recommend this novel.

Jon Steele has written a haunting mystery of "intersecting lines of causality," with references to the lost Book of Enoch, human evolution, medieval architecture and sex slavery. The character of le guét of the Lausanne Cathedral bell tower is heartbreakingly memorable. This is my fourth time reading the book in anticipation of the release of the third book of the trilogy. It was still mesmerizing and stays with me. I appreciate the thoughtful combination of mystery with hopefulness.

The author takes about the first third of the book showing the reader the 3 main characters. It left me wondering where the story was going. Then the action starts. The story is an interesting one and the characters are 3-dimensional, but there are a few spots in the tale that made me groan. First, the likelihood of a man (or woman) waking up and having no memory, but just going about his daily business without saying anything about his condition? To anyone? Second, this same character very suddenly, practically from one sentence to the next, realizes who he is and his enemies realize his memory has returned at the same time, with no explanation whatsoever.? This is a very abrupt transition, making me wonder if i had missed something. Third, the angels recharge their batteries by smoking some sort of cigarette? What was the author thinking? On the other hand, the French main character, Marc Rochat, is a masterpiece! He is very unique, someone the reader can feel for. Overall, I am glad I read the story, because I did enjoy it. With some changes made, I easily could have loved it.

At first, coming off summer beach reads, I found it a bit too detailed for me, but after the first chapter I got sucked right in! The world the author creates is thick and full of smells and culture and texture. He takes his time with the story line making sure to build up the characters so you have a deep connection with them before tossing you right into the action. The attention to detail he gives the characters and environment make you feel like you know these places and people first hand and have a stake in the outcome. I found myself excited to have free time in my schedule to pick this book up every day and get swept away. Before I knew it, I reached the last page and was eager for more! Now..to find something just as good to keep me satiated until the author follows up!

Not much more to say than that. The writing is excellent from top to bottom. The characters are engaging and I felt myself genuinely worried about their fate. However it was slow. Not really a thriller in the traditional sense when you're about two hundred and fifty pages in and wondering when something's going to happen. But they were fun characters to spend time with so I didn't mind that much and ultimately things picked up to a rousing conclusion.

If you can refer to a book of sex, Satanism, and suspense as refreshing, this one is. The last book I read concerning angels, nephelem, and superstition was such a disappointment that this one was refreshing; it was interesting, complex,(but not confusing), and well written. I anticipate reading the next in the trilogy as soon as I finish Book 6 of the Dresden Files.

I found the Watchers trilogy intriguing, especially the first book. As is normal with me I race through a book to find out what is happening. Not the best way of reading the Watchers because there is so much to understand and its easy to miss something that points in the direction that the author wanted. The characters are so different and I loved them. When I read the last few pages of he third book I cried. Not something I have done for years. I will give it time before I pick up the Watchers again and make sure I read it slowly. Highly recommended.

This book is addictive... very addictive. Three is simply not enough. Will have to convince writer for a sequel trilogy !

this was recommended by some one who also reads john connelly who i find wonderful. i bought it thinking it would be somewhat similiar but i have not read a more boring book for ages. Gave up after about 5 chapters

I expected a wonderful story, instead it is long winded and boring. The characters are flat and superficial. I am halfway through the book and nothing has happened; it goes nowhere. Perhaps there may be a thrilling conclusion, but I am giving up.
