This beautiful retelling of the epic is an exploratory and visually stunning journey of lost kingdoms and characters that resonate with millions of people across the world. This edition of the Mahabharata, brings the world’s longest epic to life, and comes with a foreword by Mahabharata scholar Bibek Debroy. With more than 500 stunning images showcasing India’s varied art forms, the book encapsulates stories from all 18 chapters, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Harivamsha in a uniquely accessible way. With clarity and simplicity, the stories reveal the eternal relevance of the Mahabharata, an epic that has shaped Indian thought for over 3,000 years. More than 500 stunning images showcasing India’s varied art forms such as paintings, sculptures, and historical artefacts. Introduces concepts to readers not familiar with Hindu mythology ; covering topics such as the pantheon of Gods and the Cosmos. Review: Nice illustrations - Great way of storytelling the mahabharata. The illustrations and photos add a nice visual touch Review: A must book for Mahabharata readers. Pls read this as your second book on the epic. - Wish I could give one extra rating to the book. So picturesque and collects evidence of the epic from various sources including painting, dance and statues all over the Bharatvarsha. Every page summarizes one part of the story with pictures. Please note if this is your first book on Mahabharata, then it should not be bought. I refer Mahabharata (3 volumes) by Amar Chitra Katha for an easy understanding of the epic. Then this book can be supplemented to a deeper understanding. Also, please note the book is not written from a religious point of view, but it does conveys the greatness of Bharatvarsha. The story try to follow the sequence of the epic but it may not be the case always. What is amazing is its collection of stories which I have never read elsewhere like law of niyoga and story of Sikhandi. Definitely a must buy.

Fascinating illustrated retelling of the Mahabharat
The Author Bibek Debroy's edition of Mahabharat is one amongst the famous English editions as it has the exact same contents of authentic version of Veda Vyasa Sanskrit Poem. This book is based on the same author and DK has done it's best in illustrating the story of Mahabharat. The quality of the paper is so good and glossy and also the book is very sturdy. Amazon packed the book in a simple cover only, but luckily no damages were there during the delivery. The price in the Amazon is the lowest comparing the cost from the other dealers for the same book. Anyways I am so happy that the worlds greatest epic is in my hands now. Appropriate age to learn this illustrated book is 13+. Definitely not suitable for the kids, but adults will definitely enjoy reading this book. If you are looking the Mahabharat for kids, then you can go with Amar Chitra Katha Mahabharat boxed edition.

Must-buy book on the Mahabharata
I have read numerous versions of the Mahabharata. Though this book does not tell the story as a narrative, it is enormously informative. It picks specific episodes from the Mahabharat and illustrates how these stories are represented in visual and performative arts. I have come back to it many times over the years I've owned it, simply to browse, or to delve into a particular episode that has come to mind. My kids have enjoyed the Mahabharata when I've read it to them in comic book form, and this book has often been what we've gone to, to better understand how these stories are represented in art and culture. A spectacular companions to one of the most important imaginative works humanity has produced, beautifully produced and illustrated.
