Tanner
I give this between a 3.5 and a 4 star. It was a great story and had great potential. The problem was the way the characters interacted with each. I do not think thru most of the book they said, or did anything nice to each other. If it wasn't her writing each of their thoughts about how they felt about each other I probably would have given a much lower rating. They each cared for each other and Tanner cared for Jory even though he did not know it was his kid. Also at one point Roxy is upset that she sent Tanner a letter he was going to be a father and thinks he ignored it, and the next thing is she saying he can't find out Jory is his son. It can't be both ways. Anyway the story was good and she should have had them at least talk normal to each other and not ignore the other one, or only say mean things the whole book. The two times they did come together before they admitted they still loved each other Tanner was mean to Roxy as soon as they were done. There should have been some tenderness between them sometime during the book. I still found it good, but some people may not.

Tanner
I loved the book but the editing was horrific. The story moved a little slow in places, but enjoyable all the same.

More research needed for cattle operations
I did overall enjoy this book, but, there was a part of it that I was rather disappointed in and needs to be corrected. When Tanner becomes worried about the creek rising and overflowing into his " best breeding steers" pen it was a rather big disappointment, steers do not breed, Bulls breed, a bull that has been castorated is now a steer, and will never breed again. To those of us who have cattle that is a pretty much unforgivable error. If you are going to have a large cattle operation spun into your story know the difference between Bulls, steers and heifers. There were several areas where his breeding steers were referenced, if it was just one spot I would just shake my head an let it go but when the cattle operations were discussed it was obvious the writer had little knowledge on the subject. I just thought everyone knew the difference between a bull, steer, heifer an cow especially those who would use them for subject matter in a book. Unforgivable it is.

A Great Read
It takes a darn good book to keep me interested till the last page. This one did. I could not stop reading, the storyline just keeps on flowing with just the right amount of intrigue and romance. A real good romance without the usual erotica that doesn't need to be there. We all have imaginations. I am going to continue reading books by this author. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Happy reading.

Tanner
Another good one. I have read four Nora Hess books this week and each one is better than the last. All four have been excellent!

Thinly plotted and poorly developed characters.
Slow moving and not much of a plot. I was really disappointed in this book. The characters were not very well developed and I never developed any feeling for either Tanner or Roxy during the entire book. Usually when I finish a book I miss the people in it. It's like having friends move away but not with this book. By the end of the book I really didn't care what happened to them. Why would Roxy put up with Tanner's continually boorish behavior? He is supposed to love her so much but treats her badly. As for Roxy, she tries to convince herself she no longer loves Tanner yet agrees to become his housekeeper and move in with him. All this is supposed to be for her son's well being. However, she insists she does not want Tanner to find out he is the boy's father because she fears he will take Jory from her. Why would he do that if he loved the boy? She allows Jory to endure the ridicule of the townspeople and lets everyone think that gambler Ace is his father. Every decision she makes and the reasons she gives for them make no sense. Would a man really just pack up and leave like Tanner did after seeing Roxy with Ace without confronting her? Even though her father purposely gave him the impression that Ace was a romantic rival I think a man as strong willed as Tanner would demand an explanation and not just run off for seven years like a wounded puppy. And would Roxy really trust her father to mail a letter to Tanner telling him of her pregnancy knowing how he felt about him? This plot was so thin and contrived that I couldn't wait to finish the book just to get it over with.

Two main characters that bickered the entire book and then solved their quarrell in the last two pages????DUHHHHEDITING NOT SO GREAT.He'll was hell. Won't was wont. Had to read some sentences several times to get the meaning because of jumed words.I like books that have a real story behind it and not so much bickering .
