great knife, great price.
i have been carrying a pocket knife since i was a cub scout and after all these years i think this might be my favorite folder. for the price this is some serious quality. i have bought much more expensive gerber knives and this one blows them all out of the water.smooth blade open, secure lock and no blade play. razor sharp out of the box. within 24 hours of getting it i managed to cut my finger on the serrated blade by accident. i was not sure about the thumb hole when i ordered it but i am now a fan. your thumb rotates in the hole providing a smooth easy open that follows the natural motion of your thumb.the knife is a good size for medium or larger hands. while it is made in china, Spyderco has amazing quality control. it feels like a USA made knife at half the cost. the steel is not as bad as some people say. for an everyday use knife it is an ideal steel ,holds an edge, sharpens up quick, and is strong. chrome moly vanadium stainless steel is often used in hand tools like wrenches so this blade is clearly meant to take a beating. if you are looking for a $150 knife then buy a $150 knife. but i can guarantee 99% of the population could not tell the difference in steel. overall i am very satisfied with this knife. i liked it so much i bought another with the full spyderedge blade. eventually i will drop the cash to buy a $200 spyderco made in America but for every day carry the Tenacious is perfect.

Sweet, sweet knife. Huge bang for the buck.
Man, for a cheap imported knife, this thing is really impressive. Not a normal occurrence, but I happened to have been lucky enough to purchase 2 very nice knives this week. While at a local knife shop I picked up a Benchmade 583sbk at a killer price, fell in love with the second i picked it up and knew it was going to be my new EDC. Prior to picking that knife up locally I had ordered the Spyderco on amazon, there was a delay in shipping so it didn't get to me in the one or two day post ordering. Well, anyway, picked up that really sweet benchmade and thought the spyderco was gonna wind up in my tool box, but much to my surprise this spyderco was pretty much THE perfect EDC knife, even with out the Tanto blade I usually prefer. Just felt solid and like a quality machine. Super easy action, I have a really strong feeling that this will be my most used EDC going forward. Nice slim profile, love the texture on the g-10 grips, easy peasy one handed open and close, smooth as a babies ass action, just a quality knife. I would like to play around with it with some gloves on (that is an area that the Bench made rocked, It was pushing zero degrees out this last weekend and snow and ice in my area, I used it all weekend outside with gloves and the Benchmade rocked) given the nice thumb protrusion on the Spyderco I expect similar results.I plan on adjusting the pocket clip for a tip up carry, that is my favorite postion, and that leads to another win on the Spyderco side, it is set up to have 4 positions for the clip, so you can carry this thing any way your heart desires!! Grab it, this thing is one quality tool for the price point, yeah, its made in China, I imagine there are not a lot of sub $100 knives in this category that aren't. Saw a previous reviewer whining about that, but you'd have to be a fool to think other wise, and it is clearly stated in the description as well. I will update this after a few months of use, but honestly, it is really great bang for the buck!!

Super Buy
Although I've been collecting knives for a few years and carrying a pocket knife for more than 50, this is my first Spyderco. I originally posted this review in September 2011 but, after more than two months, much of what I felt about the Tenacious has changed and I've made some extensive edits. What hasn't changed is my being bothered by the fact that this model is made in China. I'm not a fanatic about buying only products made in the U.S., but tend to stay away from much of what is made in China. Anyway, nobody put a gun to my head to buy this knife and I have to admit that the quality is quite good for the price. Spyderco seems to be doing a first class job of overseeing their Chinese source, which is more than I can say for some other brands. One thing that did change was my concern about the "hole". The Tenacious is the only knife that I own that uses this opening method. It took me a little while, but I've become very comfortable with it. I may be the only person who doesn't use his thumb to open the knife. I find it easier and faster to use my index finger to "flip" the blade open. A classic case of doing what works. I did loosen the pivot bolt about ½ turn and now the blade just flies open with a flick of my finger. No problem with accidental opening whatsoever and closing is a one-hand operation as well. The blade steel is 8Cr13Mov which I've come to feel is of mid-level quality. It takes a nice edge but doesn't hold it nearly as long as something like ZDP189. Given the price point, I have no complaints. The G10 scales are grippy and I like the pocket clip. I wish that more manufacturers would design knives that allow for four-way clip positioning, but not many knives are designed to handle that. At some 4 ounces, this knife feels heavier than it looks and you really know that it's in your pocket. The blade is quite thick and the serrations are extremely sharp. Oddly, I didn't find the plain portion of the edge to be as sharp as expected from Spyderco. Although I wasn't sure that I would like the combo blade, it turns out that I do. Cutting heavy rope and plastic ties is a breeze with the serrated portion. Made in China or not, the knife exudes quality. Even the packaging was better than expected. I initially had some doubts about keeping the Tenacious. However, after 2+ months of use, there is no way that I'm going to sell it. It's now nearing the end of December and I'm making one more edit.... I like this knife so much that I'm giving one as a Christmas gift. Call me crazy, but I've been working on polishing the blade on mine to a mirror-like finish with 3M micron paper. It's a long process to do by hand but I've been doing it a little at a time. Probably silly to waste time on this with a $30 knife that will actually be used, but it looks quite a bit different from the stock finish.
