I would say it depends on how good your memory is. For me, once solved, mix it back up and let sit for how ever long you would not remember what it took to solve it.

I bought two and both were wooden. If the pic shows wood and you do not get a wooden puzzle, then return it but make sure it says returnable.

No and hopefully your kids are at least teenagers because this is not an easy puzzle. Still working on mine! There is one or more of these puzzles with a hidden box. I think it might be Pandora or Emperors chest.....
