The pictures doesn't match the product and give a completely misleading understanding of it. I was expecting it to be a one piece product, but turned to be far away from the expectations! A small elbow and a plastic cover! What a cheap thing! It is not worth the cost nor the purchase. I am considering returning it all and buy a different brand. I remember seeing the one in the picture at some places, but what was received is not the one.

I purchased this about 6 months ago and its very very nice for the money... Getting the nipple thru the wall to the drop ear elbow and reaching the exact depth for the cast elbow to mount to was the hardest thing, but not a big deal. If I remember correctly You need about 1 1/2 inch past all wall material, tile etc...I think I needed a total of 3 1/2 in nipple to fit perfectly, too long and the cover wont reach the wall, too short and the hose attachment will not be able to fit on the lower threaded part of the cast elbow easily. See there is a cutout on the bottom of the cover that the pipe exits from that a hose gets attached to, there is some leeway as the cutout is more oval giving room front and back as needed... There is a rubber gasket that fits in a channel on the backside that prevents water from getting behind the wall. It is all plastic so don't expect chrome brass, but the shine is flawless. Its easily installed, the front has a cap with a o-ring that comes off, after the actual cast elbow piping is threaded on to the nipple coming out of the wall, it has a mounting hole on it that inside the plastic cover a screw goes thru a tab in the cover and into the pipe securing the escution to the wall securely, Then the cap snaps back on, no chance it will fall off as it has a very snug fit. Considering the price this was well worth it, yea its all plastic but who really cares looking at it you would never tell, after 6 months its perfectly clean, no water spots, then again mine is set higher on the wall and doesn't come in direct contact with water. An excellent choice for the price and Grohe is considered among top of the line in plumbing products.

Yes, the surrounding trim is plastic. All the plumbing connectors are top quality brass. By being plastic, you will never have to worry about rust like you would with cheap, chrome plated steel. The finish is an exact match to the Grohe chrome pieces, so you do not need to worry that it will look out of place when used with other Grohe chrome parts. I have had a slightly different model Grohe shower union for 6 years. It also is plastic. When I received it, I was surprised to find the cover was plastic. It remains in perfect condition. When I was changing out another shower this year I knew that I was going to use Grohe parts again, and did not hesitate to get this item. Actually, I would have been disappointed if I had to get this part with metal trim pieces. It is easy to install. It is large. Check the line drawing with dimensions available on the Grohe website if you are concerned about the size. Being large helps to ensure that it will cover whatever hole is in your wall for the pipe to penetrate. So, buy it and be glad the trim is plastic.

The kit contains a plastic cover which attaches to the elbow with a screw, the elbow itself and a strip of foam as a water seal. The elbow is very sturdy and heavily plated. The plastic cover, well, it's just plastic. Looks OK for the price (wish it was metal). The pipe that comes from the wall should stick out from the wall about half an inch but not more than 3/4 inch otherwise the cover will not pull down to the wall. It was very easy to install with an adjustable wrench and a screwdriver. Also, you do need some Teflon tape for the pipe threads.
