Bird B Gone Red-Tailed Hawk Decoy, Scare Birds Away

We had birds nesting under an overhang dropping their poo on our bbq grill, our patio and the dog's kennel including the dog's food n water bowls. They were dive bombing our vehicles AND the birds were entering our garage when the big door was up or the small door was open thereby becoming trapped hence succumbing to their death after head butting the glass window too many times in their efforts to escape. I bought a couple of these owls, a couple of the hawks as well as several snake replicas including a very realistic cottonmouth and rattlesnake. Together these have done the trick! The owls and hawks are hanging by durable fishing wire in several strategic places. They are hanging in the areas we want to deter birds and where a breeze can gently spin these replicas to add realism. As these bird replicas are all placed by different doors and different overhangs I know each of them are indeed responsible for their area being free of poo! The snakes are intertwined in chain link and the larger replica snakes are out front along the garage wall on each side of the large garage door, so are "guarding" different areas. The birds now stay away from our garage, patio and dog kennel. Since literally the week after I placed our replica critters I have not found *any* bird poo on our patio, our bbq grill nor in the dog's bowls. No more birds in our garage, either! Wow, such an easy quick fix! I happen to collect owl statues, simple statues did NOT work. It took these life-like replicas to deter the persistent birds. Be sure to hand these birds by fishing wire or other durable means as cotton twine quickly degraded allowing our high drive dogs to have a new play toy. Despite getting somewhat crushed and chewed, this life-like replica is still performing as intended.

I have had it sitting on the front porch rail for weeks now, and the flock of black birds stopping by to devour the cats' food (a couple of times a day) haven't dared to risk crossing paths with the hawk! I honestly didn't think this would work, but was desperate for something to prevent a flock of some 20-30 black birds snatching the food I leave for the 8 feral cats in my neighborhood and leaving their droppings all over my porch. I can't believe this has worked! I bought a 5 lb bag of aquarium gravel to put inside the hawk (it is very light weight so you have to add something to keep it from blowing away) and that has so far worked quite well. It sits on my porch railing (an old bungalow, big front porch) and I just saw it through my security camera with my own eyes: the flock of birds gathered in the tree by the street, but they left within seconds instead of coming to the porch to steal the cats' food! It's been nearly a month and there hasn't been a single day when I thought the hawk has failed to work. UPDATE: The end of January the birds were back, so it stopped working, but it did a good job for awhile.

I wish there was some pointers to setting is up, because it came in the box and that's it. The paint wasn't even completely dry (or it was really humid out), but either way I ended up with a little black paint on my hands when taking it out of the box. Read up that you want to keep moving it around the garden and not always in the same spot. It's hallow, so you need to fill it to weigh it down, dirt worked fine for me. So far, it seems to be keeping the blackbirds away that were eating my leaves and plants before they were even budding.

So for the past four years I had been climbing 24' up twice a year to patch holes in the side of our house where birds kept pecking away to build a nest in my attic. I decided to dig in and find a solution. I went online and found Bird B Gone. Though I have seen many boats on slips that have an owl, hawk or some other deterrent that sea gulls just ignore (and actually relieve themselves on the decoys) I decided this might be the trick. I mounted my BB Gone hawk about 20' up near the main area where the birds like to peck. After carefully getting down off the ladder, I came inside to get a glass of water and then a few minutes later I walked out to see my handywork. As I came around the back of the house, no more than a foot above the hawk, a tit-mouse was busily pecking away! Though a stationary decoy such as Bird B Gone will NOT deter birds in any way, it makes a nice looking addition on the back of my house. I highly recommend it for those who may be looking for a cool looking ornament to mount on the side of your house. It provides plenty of chuckles for the birds, who must think I'm a nerd! It was worth the $10 I paid for it for chuckle value alone! :)

This was my fifth in an increasingly costly string of attempts to dissuade a couple of flickers attempting to build a nest in my siding. Perhaps I have some persistent pests. The first day I put this out in the yard, I could hear a noticeable increase in bird chatter. That's the only result I've seen from this. Squirrels don't mind, rabbits don't mind, flickers definitely don't mind. Seems the only animals that took notice were a couple of resident hawks that circle and screech when I move it around the yard. The Bird-X TAPE-25 Irri-Tape Bird Repellent Ribbon seems to be working much better against the flickers - although it does have a certain WT look to it.

I was skeptical to buy this but after 2 yrs in operation, I can definitely attest that this decoy is effective. I put a couple on posts to move around near whatever fruit trees or grape vines are ripe. Even if it stays put for 6+ months, birds don't go near it. My dogs barked at it when it was new. The first one is faded from a few years of direct Cali sunshine, works just as well as new. Interestingly, hummingbirds don't seem to care, guess they aren't intimidated by hawks. But haven't seen any other kind of bird venture within 100 feet of this decoy.

We had a pair of black birds trying to make a nest in our car port 3 days in a row. Each day we would knock the twigs and stuff down and get rid of it but the next day, they did it all over again. The Hawk came in the mail and we put it up on a perch so the birds could see it right off when flying under the carport. Not one nest has appeared since then! We observed the birds in a tree making a lot of noise but they would not go under the carport any more! We are happy if it keeps working like it has all last week and no more poop on the cars! Update...1 year later...Well..we thought it worked great and maybe some birds have been deterred but Robins pay no attention whatsoever to it! No other trouble from black birds or any other kinds of birds except the Robins. So...It works for some but not all!

At first it was seemed to be working keeping the birds away but after just a couple of days I think the birds caught on that it’s not real. I had brought two. One for the front and back. It didn’t matter if I moved them. My car still got torpedoed with bird crap. But also doesn’t help when you have neighbors that feed the birds
