This is a genuine Herm Sprenger made in Germany
This particular item is the 3.0mm Herm Sprenger sold by & shipped by Amazon I have an old (25 years) Herm Sprenger collar in a smaller size. I ordered this one which is 3.0mm. After reading all these complaints about it being a fake & made in China I was anxious to see if it was true. Guess what, it is NOT true. Yes, there is a paper tag pasted on there saying it's made in Germany but if you actually look at the link (where you connect the leash) stamped INTO the metal it says "Germany". There are also 2 other metal pieces between prongs that has stamped INTO the metal (SPRENGER). This is the real deal! The original one I have is a smaller collar & lighter gauge metal. The one that I received from Amazon is a very sturdy collar & very good quality. The collar, when used properly, is very effective for training & helping keep your dog under control & it will not hurt your dog. Yes, it does cause a little discomfort when you give the leash a little snap or pull but it does not dig into the dogs skin, discolor it or cause any pain. AGAIN, this is if you use ir correctly & NOT leave it on the dog when you are not out walking with your dog. I've tried a variety of collars & harnesses for training dogs...such as chokers (I hate these because they can really do harm to the dog), gentle leader collar (even when used right most dogs hate it & it's not very effective), gentle leader harness (works the same as the collar but dogs don't mind it as much but it is not an effective tool for controlling a dog who pulls, regular harness is good but not an effective training tool to teach dogs not to pull. The prong collar is very effective to teach dogs how to walk calmly on the leash by your side rather than lunging or pulling. All it takes is a gentle snap of the leash when they start to pull & they will immediately pull back. You do not need to pull hard & you should not. Use the lightest pull that gets the dogs attention. Reward good behavior & it won't take long for your dog to "get it" & start walking calmly on the leash. Overall a great product, good quality & an authentic Herm Sprenger.

Wow, it REALLY works!
Wow, what a difference! We didn't want to try this collar other than a last resort, but why I'm not even sure. We've been through many things already though. We have a Samoyed, and they are known for pulling but, we can't have that on walks. He was pulling so hard he was choking himself. A little history. We had him in puppy training, flat collar at first. We tried stopping every time he pulled. "Oh we stopped, cool I'll just pull pull pull until we go again." Or "Oh we stopped, cool I'll sit, wait we're going again!? PULL PULL PULL!!" We tried turning around each time he pulled. "Pull pull pull THIS way, we're turning around! GREAT, PULL PULL PULL THE OTHER WAY!". Or pull sideways constantly trying to sniff things or get at other dogs. It was awful. We tried treats for "heel" and redirecting, wearing him out at the park before a walk; nothing was working. We also tried a 'soft limited slip' also known as a martingale as recommended by the breeder. Didn't matter, he pulled like a mad-man. We tried the Halti. He learned to pull with that too, plus I didn't like how it looked. Samoyeds are very fluffy and it just didn't work out. We also tried the Gentle Leader which despite custom sizing in the chest, really didn't work out. Our dog just learned to LEAN against the pull-around motion and keep at it. It really came to a head when our dog was basically jerking me all over the sidewalk, slamming me into door frames in his haste to exit the house, and making it virtually impossible to hold the leash with one hand and use the other to do ANYTHING, like open the gate at the dog park. After one particularly embarrassing day at the dog park where I got dragged away from the gate a few times, I did some research and bought this collar. Wow, just night and day. The dog doesn't mind getting it put on, and once I got the hang of it, it's not too hard to get on and off. I looked at videos on how to put it on, where the placement should be, and everything to make sure it was done right. Now although he doesn't walk entirely on a 'loose leash' but he's not putting any pressure on the leash, even when he sees another dog. It just took one lunge where he pinched himself in the action to learn. I even did an hour long walk the second day we tried it, where we came up behind a slow walker with 2 tiny dogs, and all my dog did was whine a little bit, but otherwise there was NO pulling, NO lunging, nothing! I can walk the dog using just one arm and not both, and don't have to worry about getting pulled off my feet when trying to pick up dog waste or sparing one hand to get out the water bottle. It's fantastic. The collar itself looks well-made and all the prongs are polished and rounded off. I tried it myself on a leg and it's not bad at all. We're hoping that a little time with this, combined with a little more maturity for the dog, we can go back to a regular collar, but in the mean time the walks are both way more enjoyable, and longer distances aren't making my arms feel like they are being ripped out of their sockets.

Outstanding tool for training, when used properly!!!
. The other pinch collar has vanished. This replacement pinch collar is much better made and designed than other collars on the market. It WILL QUICKLY train a Head Strong dog (aka Min-Pin or Bullmastiff)) to behave while on a leash. However..., the owner must be very careful of the powerful nature of the pinch collar. The collar will give the owner AND dog a much more pleasurable walking experience, WHEN used properly. No more CONSTANT PULLING, LESS LIKELY to bolt off in persuit of other animals and over all manageability of your dog. Eventually you will be able to switch to a NORMAL COLLAR...., but that will take time, pacients and proper training. Do NOT ALLOW children the handle your dog with this collar ON..., unless of course the child has the proper training and skill level to do so with adult supervision. Make No Mistake this collar is a powerful tool for training only. Used improperly the collar can do more harm than good. I trained my Bullmastiff with a collar very similar to this one. Within a matter of a week of daily training and Voice Control..., I could easily take her for a walk on nothing more than a THREAD..., for a leash. At that point..., I had full Verbal Control over her (I wouldn't try that trick just ANYWHERE, I might add!-). She is prone to suddenly forgetting ALL training in a moment and do as she pleases (that can be a very bad situation, that I would NOT allow to happen, thus constantly exercising due diligence is a MUST). Regardless, this collar is the best of the best. You can certainly spend more on similar products, but why? This collar works quite well, is very well designed and sturdy enough for the most difficult breeds.

not for everyone
I initially thought this was the same size as the prong collar I received from the dog rescue, but this one is a big one! However, it was just what I needed for my growing 75# "puppy." At the time of the collar purchase, the puppy was 7mos old. The Herm Sprenger from the rescue seemed to have a link out of whack each time I'd inspect the collar and I was running out of replacements. I bought this one to have a bunch of replacement links, but it was the next size or two up from the collar I had. Perfect timing! This collar still fits the dog, who is now a year and a half. We recently moved to an apartment complex from our house that had a backyard. This collar came in handy and has been a safety measure as well. I walk our now nearly 85# dog on a 6' leash that I fold up to about 2' while wearing my 8mo old daughter in a front ergo-carrier. We are quite the sight. I have been complimented on how well my dog walks with me, and it has taken a lot of work. With my previous dog, I did all positive-reinforcement training and used a fabric martingale collar. Our current dog is a bit more heavy and strong, and the martingale collar doesn't work for walks where there are cars and other dogs around. I highly suggest that before you use the Herm Sprenger prong collar that you attend a dog training class in which the instructor uses the prong collar. You can read up on them all you like, but there is no substitute for guided, hands-on learning with these collars. If used improperly, you can hurt your dog. When used properly, you rarely need to use the prong function, but you walk with the confidence of knowing you have your dog under your control. When our dog was really young, we used this prong collar in combination with a waist leash to teach loose-leash walking. It works very well. Bottom line: great collar when used by a trained owner. Your dog will thank you!

A++ Product!
I have a totally different dog! My 8 month old medium sized dog is very strong for her size and is a TERRIBLE puller on our walks. Not to mention that when she sees another dog in the neighborhood, she gets really worked up and is very leash reactive (not aggressive, just frustrated she can't run over and play). This collar has stopped BOTH of these annoying, embarrassing, and potentially dangerous behaviors. She no longer pulls and instead walks beside me calmly; if we come across a dog, she still gets a bit antsy, but no longer goes completely insane as a quick, gentle "pop" communicates to her that she needs to chill. It is humane and does not hurt her AT ALL. From what I've found, if she does sound uncomfortable, it's only because she's frustrated with the fact that she no longer has control during our walks. For more info on how to use the collar, **please visit this YouTube tutorial**, Jeff Gellman seriously knows his stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3iczULPcdE PROS: It works! You will be shocked at the IMMEDIATE change in your dog; easy to secure and hook back together; does not tangle; sturdy with no signs of structural weakness CONS: It may be a little tricky to hook up dogs with long/thick fur if you have to part lots of hair - but it's nothing a little practice can't fix (maybe it's just a sign that my dog needs a grooming!) TIPS: Rather than hooking/unhooking from the faceplate in the center, hook/unhook from one of the attachments on either side of the collar, closer to the back. It is generally easier to hook/unhook from the side, rather than the front as some dogs are stubborn and won't look up for you. **I researched this product thoroughly before purchase, but ultimately Solid K9 Training's Jeff Gellman helped me understand the importance, ease, and effectiveness of this collar and this particular brand.

Effective training/bonding tool; Making my second purchase.
I purchased this not too long ago when my Labrador Retriever puppy who was just over 40 lbs and 3 months old. At the time when I first received it. I had to remove two links for it to fit properly. It was a good fit and because it is the smaller gauge it did not slide down so much on his neck. I had a previous foster dog where I was given the larger gauge, but it kept slipping toward the base of his neck (which is not where it should be positioned) due to its weight. I prefer this gauge over the larger one and I find they both work the same but without the slipping. The problem is if you have a rapidly growing puppy be prepared to have him/her in between sizes (links) and of course having to add an additional link about 1 week and half later. My Labrador is now 5 months old and weighing in at 65 lbs. This one prong collar no longer fits him with all links on it. However, I am a happy camper with this product and simply repurchasing this same additional prong collar so that I can connect as many additional links as he continues to grow. (Buying the extra links package is a waste of money as they only provide about 3/4 extra links, just buy the extra collar.) This collar is extremely effective in correcting his need to pull, he does not yelp or seem bothered by it. Proper usage has ensured that he is mindful of me and that I am controlling our walks. Without this collar and being a happy-go-lucky Labrador he will incessantly pull towards every human and animal he sees to say hi (regardless of treats in my hand). In turn, this causes a stressful situation where I am trying to peacefully enjoy our walks and outings, and yet I find myself more than 70% of the time trying to get him to submit to me, which ends up just being plain stressful and not fun for me or him. I am a 5.'6" 130lb female, and he is almost half my weight and only 5 months, this collar has helped us bond better because it continually redirects his attention towards me. I initially felt bad about using this but I've placed the prong collar around my own neck and husband's arm, we both find that with little effort the pressure is annoying but it doesn't hurt, of course if I were a dog and trying to pull away then yes, the collar will pinch, but that should make the dog back off of pulling real quick. The collar itself is marked with the signature herm sprenger engraving on the rings, the prong tips are rounded off, and made of solid stainless steel. The collar feels high quality.

All pros, made a wonder dog, just make sure to get the genuine Herm Sprenger product...
My dog's upper neck circumference is about 13-14", she's a German Shepherd mix with maybe Australian cattle and she's about 50+ lbs at 9+ months old now. This collar has 10 links total, I had to remove 4 links, if I remove one more link to properly fit it right behind the ears and below/behind the jaw, it seems just a tiny bit too tight, so I kept it a 4 links removed, it tends to slide down the neck a little more than I prefer, but the flat collar is helping keeping the prong collar up high enough and not too low, even then, it works wonder, am sure it would work much better if I could keep it higher up, but even as is, it's making a huge difference, compared to me using a chain collar before, which did not help to keep from pulling completely, sniffing, etc. With this tool, you only need to give it a very light tug to signal the dog with very low discomfort, I did tried both chain and prong collar on myself, the chain definitely causes pain right at the pinch location, while this prong is spread out evenly around the neck with no pain, only with a tiny slight discomfort to signal the dog, as long as it is used properly, with NO hard pulling required. With this tool, my dog quickly learned to heel properly, stop instantly when told, stopped trying to lunge/pulling toward other dogs to play, stopped sniffing and many other issues. NOTE: I noticed there are so many counterfeits out there, the main and only brand you should use is Herm Sprenger from Germany. Aside from name markings on the product, which I included pics to show the genuine brand, one other easy thing to tell that it's not quality made or maybe a counterfeit, is the end of the prongs, the cheap stuff is cut straight across, not nicely rounded off and may have slight sharp edges, which will cause irritation or pain to your beloved canine. Also, the Herm Sprenger links and chain slides much smoother. I personally like this model, not the one with a quick release clip, I feel that the clip is a weak point, where it may come undone. The pics of the Herm Sprenger, including the tags: - The two semi-triangular plates where the chain is looped around, it says "SPRENGER", "HS", "GERMANY", the word Germany is VERY small. - The square center plate that typically goes in front of the dog's neck says "SPRENGER" all in capital. - The dead ring(round ring) on the chain says "HS-GERMANY". - The D-ring where the leash hooks onto says "HS GERMANY". - Again, the end of each prong should be rounded off nicely, not straight cut across, that's a sure sign of some cheap copy cat. There are some counterfeits out there from China that part of it will even show HS Sprenger, but the lettering style and text size are different. - This one I got from Amazon came without a bag and has the following two product tags. TIP: Just incase if the prong collar comes loose via link of whatever, I recommend using a flat collar also, below the prong collar and use a carabiner clip, clip in to the round dead ring on the prong collar and the D ring on the flat collar. There are three types of carabiner clips, single spring loaded clip, double spring loader or screw in, I prefer the single spring loaded. WARNING: DO NOT keep a prong collar on dog unattended, it's for training only. >>UPDATE: 07/21/2019 As stated above even taking out four links, it's a tad too loose and five links, it's a bit too tight. Today, I removed the square center plate that typically goes in front of the neck and changed the links to all go in one direction, now it's a perfect fit, using a total of 6 links like from the beginning. >>UPDATE 08/09/2019 By taking out the center plate from the 07/21/2019 update, I later find that it's just a bit too tight. I then ordered the 2.25mm 12" Ultra-Plus version (no quick release clip, I personally do not like the quick release, to me, that clip can be a weak point). For my dog, the 2.25mm 12" is a PERFECT fit for now at 10+ months and due to the slightly smaller prong size, it made another noticeable difference in obedience(not huge, but noticeable to be worth a try), had to adjust the pop to a lighter touch. This is an awesome humane tool(if used properly), it's just night and day compared to other methods that I've tried. When I only use a flat collar, my dog tends to be slightly not as well behaved, but by controlling the leash like if the prong collar was on and voice command, she is still MUCH better than before the prong collar started.

Great for my 7 month old GSD
I have 2 adult Aussies and a 7 month old German Shepherd puppy. I’ve never used anything other than your standard collar, and in more recent years, a harness while walking the adult Aussies. The GSD puppy however, by 5 months had become strong enough that with his harness it was like trying to tame a bull with a shoelace while walking all 3 of them if he was behind the other two. I’m about 5’6” and 110lbs, so that mental picture might give you a good chuckle! I had done some research and was recommended the Herm Sprenger Prong Collar, not only for walks but also as a tool for continuing his puppy obedience training. The collar itself is high quality, and easy to use. I don’t put it over his head to put it on, but rather un-clip one link and re-clip it when putting it around his neck. To do so, you just pinch the two prongs on a link so it can slide in and out of the other link. I watched a few YouTube videos on how to use it, because you want to get your dog familiar enough that they are comfortable, and react to a correction. To correct, all you do is flick your wrist. Our puppy at first didn’t know what to think about it, submissively laying on the ground after his first correction, but with a little time and practice he was ready to go and has done extremely well with it ever since! We often take him out to public places for socialization and especially if it’s crowded, this collar helps keep him in control. Now at 7 months, he’s a big boy around 70lbs with more growing to do. The key is to only use this when needed, and do some research on how to use it. I put the collar around my theigh and try as I might, I could not get it to cause any feeling of pain... it just provides pressure! There are other brands and styles out there, but apparently this one is the best. Made in Germany and highly recommended by professionals. Absolutely worth the money, in exchange for a pleasant walk with your pup :)

Excelente Collar

Great quality and works great!
This collar is great training tool to teach my puppy how to walk properly. Research first about how to use it before you using it. It is very easy to put on and off. I use this collar for walks only. Don't keep them on when you are not walking the dog. I bought a second one for extra hook links. If you buy the extra hooks individually it is more expensive.

This is a very nice training tool
This is a very nice training tool. We tried multiple type of harnesses and collars while following instructions and advices on my dog and they either didn't work at all or worked at first but got less effective. Before putting this prong collar on my dog I did my homework and made sure i knewn how to use and fit it properly. I had to remove 2 link to get a snug fit. The collar sits just below his ears and jaw line and doesn't not slide down his neck. When I took him for a walk for the first time with this collar my dog tried to pull on the leash, he did a little yap because it got him by surprise. But after that he did not try to pull on the leash once. I only had to do some minor corrections. Heres some advise: -DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE PUTTING IT ON YOUR DOG -know what size you need -fit it properly on your dog's neck by remove or adding links -Do not let your dog walk ahead of you with lots of loose on the leash. Keep him by your side. (If he decides to run in a direction or get scared he will get hurt) -Do not pull back on the leash. Give a quick little up right jerk to correct your dog. -Remove the collar if you let you dog run around or if your not supervising him. -If your dog seems to be in pain remove immediately and figure out why. -AGAIN DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE USING! It works really nice if used properly. Its nice to see my dog walk calmly and not getting chocked by a regular collar or bruised by a harness.
