I currently have the tetrapond clear choice biofilter pf-1. can i add this in between the tetra 550 pump & the filter?

Yes, you sure can. It goes outside the pond, so you'd put it a few feet from the inlet of the filter.

Is 9W bulb longer that 5W in length?

The bulbs come in four sizes,viz 5W, 9W, 18W and 36W. I am pretty sure that the 9W will be bigger/longer than the 5W.
