Update on original review: I've been using this sand spike for a while and really like it. Very easy to push in the beach and sets well. Has held up with no issues. I have one that is custom built and this works just as well. Original review: Easy assembly. Good quality, well built and seems it will hold up well.

Extremely sturdy and easy to put into the sand. Just rock it back and forth with one hand putting downward pressure and in about 10 seconds it is set. I did it frequently with one hand while holding my fishing rod in my other hand. The bait box is handy to store bait, fishing pliers, extra weights, etc…. The two piece design is very handy as the shorter sections makes it easier for transportation in the car. Even with waves crashing against the rod holder, it never moved in the slightest.

Like the saying goes, you get what you pay for and these sand stakes are high quality and very easy to put together. Just 4 bolts and you are ready to go. Can't wait to use them. I have now used them and although they are the best ever, I don't Hammer mine into the sand, I use a portable drill with a 20" long by 2 inch auger bit to do the hard work and punch a hole in the sand. Also these sand spikes fit into the slots on the Fish N Mate sand spike and flea rake carrier. There are V shaped Grove Lazer cut into the carrier and they fit perfect. If you have 17 " large tires like my buggy has, the carrier won't fit so you'll have to fabricated some PVC brackets like on mine.

it does not push down easily on a beach with harder packed sand. I used a 45 Oz rubber mallet and still couldn't get it to go as deep as I wanted. I wonder whether a auger shaped base might work better.

Great surf fishing accessory it works great and is super handy

A must-have heavy duty spike for surf fishing. If you are a crackjack welder with aluminum or stainless steel, you might be able to build this yourself. The rest of us mere mortals have something better to do; surf fishing! White PVC pipe works if you are on a tight budget, but I like the foot peg on this one. Stop it right into the sand. Keeps your expensive surf rod and reel up high and out of the water and sand. Sand eats reels. Great investment. Tight lines!

I surf fish in south Florida. The beaches I frequent are very heavy with shells, so it is hard to push a Walmart PVC spike in and feel confident that a fish won't drag everything into the water. This spike is very well-made, but is very light, due to the corrosion-resistant aluminum construction. The cross-brace that allows you to step on it with your body weight to sink it into the sand makes a world of difference. It's very nice that it also has an attached bait box, which can also double as a place to stash tackle or other items, as well as a ruler that goes up to 25" so that you can easily check if your catch is legal.
