Nintendo NFC Reader/Writer Accessory - Nintendo 3DS

I bought the NFC Reader/Writer mainly for using the Amiibo Cards in Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer. I wasn't really sure what to expect from it and actually was a little skeptical at first. New gadgets often bring that out in me anyway. The actual product is shaped like a small hockey puck, is fairly small and light weight. Despite it's size and weight the actual unit feels well made and quite sturdy. By "sturdy" I mean it could probably live through some minor bumps and fumbles from your kiddo accidentally dropping it on the table from a short distance or even rolling across the table onto the carpeted floor (which all occurred courtesy of my 7-year old). The unit runs off of 2 AA Batteries which are included. The BEST thing is that the batteries are super easy to install - I didn't need to find a tiny screwdriver to loosen tiny screws to reach the battery door! Nope - I could just pop that thing open and get on with the gaming. I don't have any kids younger than 7 here so access to the batteries is not an issue in my household, but may be something to think about if you do. Syncing it to my 3DS was easy, like seriously push button easy and go. So far I have not had any issues with the unit and it has taken minor hits and falls to boot. The size is great because it easily fits in my son's 3DS Carrier with his handheld, cord and some games without issue. Bonus is that he can easily use it himself, it turns itself off after 5 mins of inactivity in case he forgets so no battery drainage, I don't feel like I need to guard the thing because it feels well made for the most part and he doesn't get frustrated and wants to play with it.

Glad I was able to get a hold of this product. I just purchased the new version of Metroid and the Amiibos that went with it, but I have an older 3DS that does not have the reader built in. I didn't want to purchase a new system, so I bought this product instead. I was a little surprised that I received the non-English version of packaging since the listing also had an English version, but it still works as expected and was able to set it up without any issues. Works exactly as I needed.

Mainly use it for my Animal Crossing game on my DS and it works just fine. Good value, arrived undamaged.

Works really well. My son has a Nintendo 3DS without the capability to read amiibo. The new 3DS and the wiiU both read information off the amiibo. He didn't want to invest in buying a new 3DS but earning the money to buy this reader was a more achievable goal. Took him a couple of months of hard work to earn enough to buy it but now he has both his devices reading the amiibo. He synced it up to his 3DS by himself (he is 11) and it has been working without a hitch for over a month.

When we finally got some batteries, it wouldn't turn on. But after several attempts, it started to work. It is communicating with the 3DS.

To be honest I didn't even know that my medieval 3DS didn't come with a NFC reader so imagine my surprise when I was trying to play New Leaf with the Hello Kitty cards. This thing is a life saver. Yes it uses batteries, but it works seamlessly with the older 3DS.

Funciona bien, se conecta sin problema y permite usar los amibo's con las consolas anteriores. Algo costoso comparado con comprarse una consola nueva, pero a mi hijo le gusta su consola original, así que el resultado es el esperado.

First off, I received the North American version of this product, NOT the Japanese one that's pictured. It works great with my first gen 3DS! It actually makes me want to play Animal Crossing New Leaf every single day now! And before, I was only playing it maybe once every 2-3 months. I love the new update that they put into that game and it is so flawlessly added and meshes well with this product. This can also be used with many other games, which is great! My only complaint isn't of the product itself, but that this product kind of urges me into buying more Amiibos when I don't truly want so many.

I received the North American model (as I'd hoped) and it works as expected. Put the included batteries in, turn it on, stick an amiibo on it and the rest is done on your 2DS/3DS. The only thing I found to be a bit of a bother is that the NFC reader needs to be no more than a foot away from your system, very short range, but no points lost because if you have it in range then it's fast and reliable.
