The Official SAT Study Guide

I am a private math tutor and author of Ultimate Guide to the Math SAT. The printed contents of this book with the DVD are the same as that of its predecessor without the DVD, The Official SAT Study Guide, 2nd edition . I gave this book five stars for the same reason as its predecessor: it contains the best practice tests available. The difference between this book and its predecessor edition is the DVD and the price, which on Amazon is an extra $8.11 (Amazon prices as of Jan 5, 2012). The answer as to whether the DVD is worth the extra cost will vary. Many students have complained that College Board books do not contain explanations to the problems on the practice tests, only an answer key. Those who purchase either edition of book (with the DVD or without) will be happy to know that they can have online access to the explanations. I should note that others have independently published books with explanations to the College Board practice tests, but I am not familiar with those and cannot compare them. The biggest difference between this DVD edition and the no-DVD edition is that the DVD contains a bonus SAT that was administered previously. If you anticipate needing another practice test (many students do) then that alone is worth the price. Explanations to the bonus test are also available online. The DVD contains some videos and other tools that students may find useful. But some of these are already available on the College Board web site or in the SAT Preparation Booklet (these booklets are sometimes available at your school's guidance office). Some details: -- The DVD has a useful video called "Math Concepts" of a teacher going over solutions to math problems. But only ten problems are discussed. -- The DVD has something called a "Practice Test Timer" which is useful for students who want to do a full length practice test. It is somewhat similar to the "Test Day Similator" found on the web site. -- The DVD has a test day checklist which is almost identical to the one on the web site. -- The DVD has a "Math Concepts Reference Guide" which is identical to the "SAT Mathematics Review" on the web site and in the preparation booklet.

Purchased this SAT study book for my nephew who is a Junior in high school. The material and test are immense in this book...with 10 practice tests and included DVD (with proctor timer). My nephew have informed me that he has taken 4 of the practice exam and have already improved his score! Although this book will not solely prep the student fully for SAT, it is sure a great study aide. The material covered is similar to paid SAT study sessions that cost hundreds of dollars. Practice makes perfect and this SAT study exams have 10 to practice which will be enough to get plenty of exposure and practice to the real SAT. Great supplement to any SAT guide.

There's some great info in here that'll definitely be useful to anyone studying for their SATS! It gives plenty of problems and practice tests for you to prepare and even sample essays. However, the reason I gave it 4 stars is because I didn't get a chance to check out the DVD since it was warped... I guess since it's packed right next to the spine of the book it reshaped during the shipping sucks and I'm still trying to get it straight. It doesn't completely ruin the whole thing but it would have been nice to see what it was like before taking my SAT

The book is great, and very helpful to my son, but it was a real bummer when the DVD didn't work, and even if we return it it won't get here before he takes the test.

I did my SAT for the very first time in June with absolutely NO preparation (literally none, as in, I didn't even know the test format or anything when I walked in.) I got 1950, but did really badly on writing (570). I've gone through the writing section of this book then redid my SAT in December and writing went so well I'm expecting to go up by at least 100 points. This book is pretty comprehensive and there are so many practice tests you'll never run out. I've only really used the writing section guide though, so that's all I can talk about as SAT prep really bores me.

The best practice for the SAT that there is. Not only are there sample tests, but they tell you how to get the answers. We're using this and the College Board online practice to prepare for the test. The sections that review the material on the test are very helpful, especially for parents who haven't studied geometry and algebra in a while. The DVD has math concepts video (but you can get them for free on Kahn Academy) and an extra test. Even though CB is coming out with a new version of the test, math concepts and English grammar don't change, so this guide is well worth your while.

The practice tests are perfect for measuring where you are at. I took 2 practice tests from the book and then the real test and amazingly got the same score for both the practice tests and the actual test. Definitely buy this book for the practice tests. HOWEVER be warned that the book barely teaches you the fundamentals and skills to get a higher score. The book is mostly a summary. You should look for other books that focuses on fundamentals to buy in addition to this book to raise your score.

Very good and really helpful. DVD needs more examples of tests but the TIMER function on it is excellent and well worth using as a base for practice exams

i had bought Barron sat book for my previous SAT and scored a 1450 but this time after studying from this book i feel i will improve my score for sure.... the tips and tricks in here are very helpful...MUST BUY...
