A Blast from the Past: A Review of the Casio CA53W Vintage Series
I'm a huge fan of retro-style watches, and the Casio CA53W Vintage Series is a fantastic addition to my collection. This watch is a modern take on the classic Casio C-53, which was popular back in the80s and90s. The CA53W retains the same nostalgic charm as its predecessor, but with a few welcome updates. Design and Build (5/5) The CA53W has a sturdy build quality that belies its affordable price point. The watch features a38.4mm case, which is compact enough for smaller wrists. The design is unmistakably retro, with a boxy shape, chunky buttons, and a iconic Casio logo on the dial. The watch is available in several color options, but I opted for the classic black and white combo. Functionality (4.5/5) The CA53W is more than just a pretty face. It features a range of useful functions, including a24-hour clock, alarm, and a built-in calculator (yes, you read that right - a calculator!). The calculator is a fun throwback to the original C-53, but it's not exactly the most practical feature in modern times. That being said, it's still a neat party trick. Accuracy and Reliability (5/5) As you'd expect from Casio, the CA53W is incredibly accurate and reliable. The quartz movement is precise, and I've found that it keeps perfect time. Scratch Resistance (4.5/5) The CA53W features a mineral crystal display, which provides decent scratch resistance. While it's not as scratch-resistant as some higher-end watches with sapphire crystals, it's still a significant improvement over the original C-53. In my daily wear, I've noticed a few minor scratches on the crystal, but they're barely noticeable. Overall, the mineral crystal does a great job of protecting the watch face from everyday wear and tear. Value (5/5) At around $20, the CA53W is an absolute steal. You'd be hard-pressed to find a watch that offers this level of quality, design, and functionality at such an affordable price. Overall (4.8/5) The Casio CA53W Vintage Series is a must-have for anyone who loves retro-style watches or is simply looking for a fun, affordable timepiece. While it may not have all the bells and whistles of more modern smartwatches, it's a beautifully designed and built watch that will appeal to anyone who appreciates a blast from the past. Recommendation: If you're in the market for a stylish, affordable watch that's perfect for everyday wear, look no further than the Casio CA53W Vintage Series. It's a great conversation starter, and its unique design will undoubtedly turn heads. Pros: Retro design Affordable price point Accurate quartz movement Fun calculator feature Decent scratch resistance Cons: Calculator feature may not be practical for everyone Limited water resistance (only10m) Mineral crystal may not be as scratch-resistant as some other materials Overall, I'm thoroughly enjoying my Casio CA53W, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a stylish, affordable watch with a bit of nostalgia thrown in.

A Comfortable and Cool watch!
I got this watch with a dual purpose, one being I needed a watch for work and the other being I'm a big Back to the Future fan and when I found out they were selling Marty's watch I had to scoop it up. It doesn't disappoint! I'd recommend a YouTube tutorial for how to set the time and all that since the comprehensive instruction booklet it comes with can be a lot, but setting everything up is quick and painless and the band of the watch is as comfortable as the interface is easy. I wore this thing for the past month of working, and brought it on a trip through cold mountains with me, and it served me perfectly all the way through. I'll definitely be using it for a Marty McFly cosplay at some point too! All in all, huge recommend from me, I'd say it's the best watch I've ever had.

Great but no backlight
Such a cool retro watch. The only thing missing is a backlight. I didn't realize this watch didn't have one, I assumed all of the Casio digital watches did.

The display is TRASH. However...!
I'm of two minds about this watch and it's all because of the negative display. The main reason I purchased this watch is because I always wanted one when I was a kid. The calculator watch was akin to a Rolex in my little mind. In my adult mind, I think Casio's are better as they do more. I don't care that the Rolex second hand sweeps, pffft. Does it light up as the Casio illuminator watches do? Does it have a stopwatch, alarm, timer, dual time and other functions that many Casio's have? Okay, Rolex might have watches with Casio features. Good for them. I'm still rockin' with Casio. Anywho, I finally got my calculator watch and within minutes of unboxing it, I wrapped it back up and planned to return it. Why? Because I could barely see the display!! Dearest Casio, how dare you make a watch with this negative display and NOT give it an illuminator light feature!! Aesthetically, it rocks! But, if you want to know what time it is in the dark, you're taking your phone out cos ya certainly ain't gettin' the time from this watch. Not in the dark or low light, you're not! Everything else about the watch, I love. It's light as a feather. The band is oh so soft. I thought it would be more of a firmer plastic like my Casio Baby-G BA110R-1A. I prefer this softer plastic. Might not last as long but I only paid $24. The wallet friendly price is also the reason I'll most likely not return the watch. I used to spend that much on cupcakes every weekend. This watch will last much longer than cupcakes, is more functional and won't cause my clothes to shrink. I also like that's it's dual time. Oh, and the calculator is very easy to use. My fingers aren't that big so the small buttons aren't a problem. The color options are nice. Was happy to see (and get) one in my fave color, olive green. The good definitely outweighs the bad (the display). Would I recommend this watch? Jury's out. I don't want want anyone who purchased this watch on my recommendation getting mad at me if/when they can't read the display. If you want a cute bracelet with features, get it. If the negative display doesn't bother you, get it.

Ok, so I have a bias... I'm an 80's child and had one as a kid and I loved it! This is a repro, though faithful to the original. It feels a little small, but I've grown a lot since the 80's! Simple and functional and still very cool. A must for any Back to the Future fans! Points to note - It doesn't have a backlight, so you'll need some exterior light to see it in the dark. I've seen lots of reviews complaining that the date when set doesn't match the day (which can't be changed independently). This is to do with the default date format on the watch: set YEAR first, then MONTH then DAY of month. The day of the week will then show correctly. A great watch and good value nostalgia.
