C.R. Gibson MJ5-4792 Brown Bonded Leather Notebook with 240 Ruled Pages, 5" W x 8.25" H

For the last several years I have used this same journal. I love the spaciousness of the paper and the cover design is sleek and elegant.

I enjoy writing something every day even if it’s only a line or two. These books make excellent diaries or journals. They are made with high quality binding and paper. They work particularly well with fountain pen and do not bleed. I’ve been using them for over five years. I highly recommend.

Pages are decent size. Its sturdy and the cover is firm yet soft. Its a beautiful addition to my writing area

I say traveling because this is a nice size to go in a backpack to take with you on a trip, or in my case, my commute. Two years ago I started journaling. I am on my second one of these. The size is about a regular sheet of paper folded in half. The pages aren't pure white, but an off white feel. Perhaps a yellowish tint. As you can see, there is a strap to hold it closed, and there is also a ribbon to use as a bookmark. Sometimes I tend to ramble, so the size of the page is nice , b/c it gives me an idea when to cut myself off. Fans of "stream of conscious" writing will say that is the wrong way to view it, but this journal, for me, started off about wanting to talk about my family , and my young kids, and some major events going on around the world, so that when I was older, I could look back, and say , oh yeah, that was when he started to talk, or that's where we went for New Years that year. It's morphed into becoming my therapist. Of course I still write about all those things, but more and more I started writing about my feelings of the day. My worries, fears, my excitements, failures, hopes and dreams. It's become me, put into plain paper form. I fear one of these days, I may lose it. As I said earlier, I keep it in my backpack for my commute on the train, and it scares the hell out of me that someone could find this and read how "crazy" i am !!! Reading back on the things I've written, make me laugh sometimes and cry at others. It's amazing to see your daily thoughts and feelings on paper. This journal became important to me. It turned into something I never imagined. One day, hopefully when I'm gone, or too old to care, my children and grandchildren can read my journals. To see the true me. I believe everyone has an inner person that is known only to themselves. Sometimes with a big ego, sometimes beating yourself up. Sometimes happy, sometimes sad. No one , including myself, would know these true inner selves without the help of a journal... Now the reason for 4 stars, I know this is contradictory to what I said earlier, but sometimes I think it's too small. Sometimes I want to rant and go on for a couple pages. Also, since I'm not on a table ( usually book is on my backpack which is on my lap), when writing, my hand comes off the right side of the paper making it difficult to stay neat and comfortable writing. This is a great journal for those on the road, but perhaps something a bit bigger would be better for those at home, on a desk. Happy writings!

My husband is the one who actually uses this journal. I have ordered a 2nd one because he purchased the first one elsewhere 2 years ago and is now requesting a new one just like it. He actually managed to fit 2 years' worth of diary into it and the cover looks nearly new yet. It has lined pages that are cream-colored, nice to write on, and definitely worth having as a family heirloom. It has a pocket in the back cover, perfect for storing any mementos that you would like to keep, such as tickets to special events, etc. An elastic band wraps around from the front cover to keep the journal closed and it has held up nicely these past 2 years. The journal is slim, about 1/2 inch thick, so it is easy to toss in to a suitcase or overnight bag.

I can't believe that this journal looks so good. The size is perfect. I LOVE the color of the off white paper. I love the bonded leather. I love the band that keeps it closed. It even has a cloth bookmark attached so that I can bookmark my page. There are lots and lots of pages to write on. There's also a folding paper pouch inside the end of the journal. Now...that's really cool! WOW! I will be writing in my journal with my fountain pen. It will be a sacred bond between the two. I am really excited! I am a published author and this journal will inspire me to write in it everyday. Perhaps, my journal writings will one day be the catalyst for my next novel. Thank you for your prompt shipping. These are durable books that look nice and are well-stitched. I’m a pastor and I use these to write out all of my sermons. There are exactly 240 pages in both copies I have purchased. Now that the first one is almost full the second one is in use. They have held up to weekly and often daily use. Using the Micron 01 pens the off-white/cream colored pages are easy to write on and show the colors vividly. Once they are broken in they lay quite flat. I’ve not used the pocket in the back so I’m not able to comment on its functionality or durability. I will say that it looks like it would be awkward getting things in and out of it with ease. The back cover would have to be held back completely flat as the pocket is only 1/4” smaller than the back cover. I just don’t have a need for it.

No unruled margins. It's the same journal I have ordered multiple times. Very happy it's back. Will keep ordering this in the future. ORIGINAL POST: I have ordered this journal (MJ5-4792) seven times in the past going back to 2013. I use it everyday at work. Until now I would have considered this a 5 star product. The most recent order (8/31/16) however has changed my opinion. The new page design doesn't work for me at all. There are fewer ruled lines per page. I preferred the thinner lines so I could get more writing per page. Also there is now a 1" un-ruled margin. The old version had no un-ruled margins. Again, that means much less writing space for me per page than the old version. The un-ruled margins may work for some people but it's wasted space for me. I will start looking for another product. If CR Gibson sells the old version I will continue to buy that and change my rating to 5 starts. It would have been nice for them to use a different model number if they were going to make this kind of change. I click "buy again" on Amazon for items that I like, but this is now a different product. They should include a picture of the new page design on the Amazon product page. I have included my own photo which shows the old MJ5-4792 on the left and the new MJ54792 on the right.

Aspectos negativos: - El resorte que sostiene el cuaderno está manufacturado con algo de tensión, por lo que el cuero parece algo lastimado (pero nada grave a la vista). - El papel es algo delgado a mi gusto. Si utilizas plumas fuente o sueles recalcar mucho tu letra, tal vez no sea la libreta adecuada para ti. Pero ante todos los aspectos mencionados, yo estoy feliz con mi compra. P. I love the size but disappointed in the paper color. Quality of the paper is good thou. But will never order again.
