Review: updated July 26 - I am pleased to say that after wearing this pair and another pair (different color)that I am not having no problems after all. For some reason the laces seem to be holding and it was just that one day that I had the redness on my heels, as I do not normally need a breaking in time for boat shoes. I have not noticed any smelly feed either from being barefoot in these shoes either. So far, they are holding up just as a Sperry! My original review: I am a boatshoe fan bigtime - preppie and beacher rolled into one (see movie Making the Grade). I also like to wear them with no socks - of course. The first issue: While these shoes look great on the outside with leather, it is the inside lining that is synthetic, "man made" material that causes me some concern. I believe it is this reason that both the backs of my feet are red from rubbing - even just by going for a short walk (my car to daycare to my office), and surely will blister no time at all if I do not figure something out. I wish the inside lining was leather (see Sperry comment below). I am wondering if these will have odor soon too - leather keeps it in check. The second issue: At least for me, is that the laces keep loosening and coming undone. I wish they too, were made of leather. I have been wearing Sperry Topsiders (Docksiders/Rockports as well) for over twenty five years, and they are usually made with all leather except for the removeable insole padding. I have never had a problem going barefoot in a Sperry and the laces keep in place - no break-in time required. Thus, it looks like the two that I bought, the tan and the darker brown might have become part of my colder weather shoe collection - when I wear socks again. It is a shame to me that these might not be working out as intended, as I am a big fan of New Balance and Dunham - hiking and other outdoor activities - they never disappoint. Also, I am a 4E, which is one reason I gravitate towards them, as not many other shoe brands sell such widths. Time will tell . . .

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If a deck shoe and a walking shoe got married . . .

Okay, I might as well say it up front. I just turned seventy-four and I'm going through the sort of changes that go with it (increased body aches and pains, injuries from the littlest things, lifestyle changes that go along with the freedom and flexibility of retirement, etc.), and naturally, my wardrobe purchases have been changing along the way. I no longer buy a whole lot of "dress clothes". I now only own one suit. And I have steadily reduced my collection of expensive dress shoes and replaced most of them with comfortable casual wear, mostly walking shoes and sneakers. By the way, one age-related thing that developed and impacted upon this particular segment of my wardrobe was my developing a need for prescription orthotics to alleviate foot-pain that has been exacerbated by my increased exercise and walking activities. Forgive my bragging, but I start practically every day with a four-mile walk! And so I own high-end walking shoes with removable insoles that readily accommodate my orthotics. But I can't wear "work-out" shoes everywhere! So I decided to buy some casual shoes that also have this feature but can be comfortably worn without socks and let me avoid looking quite so much like Charlie Brown from Peanuts when I'm wearing shorts! I tried several camp-shoes, deck-shoes, and mocs, but none provided the support and comfort I was looking for. And then I found these! Perfect mix of slip-on (or tighten up with the laces) comfort and style. Great materials, details, and workmanship, regularly eliciting compliments. And the support they provide is the best I've ever seen in shoes of this style. They're like a deck shoe got married to a walking shoe. I wear them some of almost every day! I just hope they prove to be as indestructible as they look!
