Hooeyman hookem machete - so far so good.
The grip is comfortable, the sheath is decent nylon, the blade is thin and sharp with good balance and good weight at the top. The size seems perfect, not too small, not too large. I tested it on some 1.5" saplings in my yard that were surrounding a mature tree. It made short work of chopping through with just a few strokes on each. The hook part is functional for pull cutting vines. I like it and recommend it as quite good for the money. I am glad I bought it. Mind you I don't have any real experience with these things, being just an average joe. But I can see how useful this will be in the woods, since it is light and thin yet stout enough to clear brush and whatnot. The shape and design has common elements with the vaunted Woodsman's Pal, and I'd prefer to have bought that for any number of reasons - Made in USA vs China, obviously higher quality, original design, etc, but I can't justify the price differential. At least until I've used this Hooeyman product a lot, and can feel certain if it will work for me in the long term. So far it's a 5 star - taking into the account what you get for the money.

A freak in the sheath.
Recently bought 3 different brands of machetes from Ace Hardware and this one here. I have to say this is the best feeling in the hand, the best balance of weight. The blade is sharp and keeps its edge and delivers exactly where you strike. The weight is light but carries through the hit. Felled 3 maple saplings this afternoon with ease, this deserves a review.

Effective for hacking down thickets.
This tool is great if you need to clear a bunch of brushy, viny vegetation. I have a variety of power tools, and this is simply more effective in cutting back brush. Its advantage is its size and weight--unlike with a trimmer, you can really get in there an hack away. For me, holding a gas trimmer or pole saw above waist level is hell on my back. Blade comes nice and sharp, the hook is quite useful, and the handgrip is comfortable. I'll be using this to chop down a bunch of brush in my back yard, then use a trimmer w/ a cutting blade or pole saw for mop-up duty. Great purchase!

Love it. Exactly what I wanted.
Bought this to replace my Woodman's Pal which got lost or left behind years ago. It was wonderful to have back during my hunting days but replacing it now costs $175-$225. This one has the same features and size, missing only the guard that goes around the fingers, and for only about 20 bucks. The hook blade is the best part. When you are removing vines or tall weeds, you just grasp the vine and put the hook at the base and pull towards you. It either slices it cleanly off at the base or pulls it out roots and all. Very handy tool. As for size, the overall length including handle is 17". The blade length from the hilt guard to the tip is 11.25".

Impressive
Using for yard care primarily. It is an impressive blade and looks like it will last. Not sure that it is as sharp as I’d like it right out of the package and will have to see if I can’t make it sharper. It was not sharp enough to cut through a 1 inch green branch without work.

Great blade but handle isn't durable.
The blade is good steel, holds an edge well, and the hook works great on vines and small branches. The handle, however, started coming apart after the first day of heavy use. The little soft rubber inserts came loose and started peeling out. I contacted the manufacturer via their website and never received a response.

Perfect
I got this knife to cut a cactus that is growing over my fence. Cactus really stinks when pieces of it fall off. The machete works perfect. It's lite enough for me to use with ease (I'm a 70 year old female), but it's very sturdy. I cut off most of what was hanging over my fence today, right after I got the knife. Most of them came off with one swipe. The hook part works well in the right spots. I'm extremely happy with this purchase. It does exactly what I want it to do.

Impressive
This is really good tool. It is lightweight and very effective. I was able to cut down piles of vines. Both the hack and pull blades were sharp and worked well. Pros: Lightweight, well balanced, effective Cons: I would have liked the tool to be 2 inches longer I would recommend this tool.

Nice little machete.
Great machete. Blade was sharp right out of the package. The grip is rubberized and nice and textured for better grip. Started clearing brush from the yard right away. Was able to get through up to 1” thick branches with little effort. The sheath is a nice touch. Great way to keep the machete clean.
