Victorinox medium pocket knife Deluxe Tinker

I don't write reviews here often, but when I do it's because a product is so good and so useful that I simply can't contain my excitement to share with others. I have had a victorinox, in one form or another, in my pocket for years. I carried the Swisstool X and Pioneer when I worked on the ambulance and it served me incredibly well, and they still do. I have since began working in an Emergency Room and wanted a bit smaller package to carry around since I now wear scrubs and don't have as many pockets as I did on my EMS Cargo Pants, yet, with this I still have full functional capabilities. That is where this little guy shines. It is small, easy to pocket, and still offers me a fantastic set of tools for my day to day duties. I especially use and love the smaller pliers included. They are not intended to be used for cutting heavy gauge wire or tightening down bolts with 1,000 pounds of torque, but they lend themselves handy in so many situations that I almost try to find an excuse to pull them out whenever possible. One of my jobs in the ER is to set up sterile procedure trays and tools for our Physicians during a variety of procedures. Well, we generally use an abundance of various needles for drawing up medications, injections, fluid drainage etc. Well, when I am cleaning these trays up I do not want to get stuck with a needle, so I use my little pliers to carefully root through the assortment of instruments, find the needles, and dispose of them safely. My fellow employees have slowly learned that I'm the "tool guy" and whenever something needs a little tool or fixing, they come to me. Our "crash cart" had a loose bolt on the wheel that was making it difficult to push, which is something you don't want to struggle with when needed. Well, through using various tools on my Deluxe Tinker like the pliers and the screwdriver I got it all fixed and our engineering department thanked me because it was one less minuscule problem they had to deal with. Overall, a fantastic piece of gear and a beautiful compliment of tools for almost any day to day tasks. I could not recommend this product anymore than I already do and truthfully, if it says Victorinox on it, you cannot go wrong. *Notice* The pics with the tools extended is not the full array of tools on this Deluxe Tinker, there is plenty more I assure you.

Love this tool. I have only started carrying a pocket knife again in recent years and the more useful I found it to be, the more I kept inching myself to the original pocket multi-tool, the Swiss Army knife. There isn’t a day goes by when I don’t reach for it at least once. Conveniently in my pocket, instead of a clumsy belt sheath, there are few things this 17 tool version can’t tackle. I probably didn’t really need one during my suit and tie days, but in retirement it is my second best friend right after my Labrador Retriever. The longer you get used to having it, the more situations you find to use it. It’s not a hunting, fishing or self defense knife but it is the handiest everyday tool you can have. High quality and compact and very effective problem solver.

Very solid good construction with all the tools I need for my day to day needs but would recommend spending the extra money to get a pocket clip for it.

Have wanted a victorinox for while but between which one to choose and waiting for a great deal it’s been awhile. While just checking out prices I found the deluxe tinker brand new on sale at Amazon for $44 usd. That was on par or cheaper than most used ones on eBay. It arrived rather quickly and is exactly what I needed. I have quite few multi tools but I really wanted one to take along for travel that was light weight, small and functional. The main things I needed where the ability to fix anything broken on suitcase (so screwdrivers, pliers, scissors). Most SAK do not have pliers. I have used the hunter I bought on eBay and it has a saw and corkscrew wich this one replaces with the pliers and a Philips head screwdriver. The pliers are thin and I would not use on large bolts etc but for the smaller screws and bolts on carry on suitcase these are great. Then you have two excellent knives (non-locking but that makes them legal in places like England) the multi use can openers and bottle opener, the awl wich I find quite usefull but others don’t and the package hook that I use to open tabbed cans (like coke). This 4 layers small and light but highly useful. Finally many of these tools can be used for more than meets the eye. Check out Felix immler on YouTube for that.

When it comes to picking a Swiss Army Knife (SAK) opinions are like... (you know). So, do yourself a favor; take your time and make up your own mind. No matter what you decide, so long as it says "Victorinox" on the blade you won't be disappointed! Personally, I carry a SwissChamp most of the time. So, the size of the Deluxe Tinker does not bother me. If it is a concern of yours ask yourself this, how big is the cell phone you never thought twice about tucking into your pocket? Odds are bulkier than this tool and with the Deluxe Tinker weighing only 4.4 ounces probably heavier too. So, is it really too big to be comfortably carried daily? (Full dimensions of the Deluxe Tinker; Length: 3.6" x Width: 1" x Height: 0.8" & Weight: 4.4 oz.) For the life of me I can't understand why the Deluxe Tinker does not ship with a straight pin installed. If you look at some other SAK models (the Swiss Champ for example) you will see they have a straight pin tucked "under" the cork screw. The Deluxe Tinker has this hole; it's just missing the straight pin. Go down to the local craft store and pick up a box of "1 1/4 inch Size 20 Dressmaker's Pins" and put one in! (A box of 200+ will run you about $5.) I won't go into gory detail reviewing each tool on this knife. There is no shortage of such reviews if that's what you're looking for, and like I said everyone has their own opinion. I'll just make 3 points that lead me to carry this tool for years. First, this knife is really the perfect middle ground between the Tinker and SwissChamp models. I LOVE my SwissChamp, but if I were forced to pare it down to the tools I absolutely would not go without here they are (including the straight pin). Second, having a Phillips screwdriver in your pocket at all times is at least 1120% more useful than a corkscrew. When was the last time you needed to spontaneously open a wine bottle? I tend to be able to plan the opener at the same time I plan the bottle of wine. They don't tend to be casually tossed to me the way a beer bottle is. On the other hand, how many times have you come across a loose screw; in a chair, on a door, in your car, on one of your kids toys, etc. and been nowhere near your tool box? Third, obviously you're not going to change a tire with the pliers on this knife, but these pliers are worth their weight in gold! They are perfect for grabbing, holding, pulling and twisting all the annoying things you can't quite get a hold of thought the day. One great advantage to having 200+ straight pins is that at that point they become disposable. I have used these pliers many times to turn a straight pin into a makeshift safety pin for everything from making an "emergency" baby bib to protecting my wife's modesty, and I've felt just like MacGyver every single time ;-). I am an engineer and a serious Victorinox Swiss Army Knife junkie (no Wenger allowed), and I could not recommend this tool more! No matter what you choose, I'm sure you'll be happy!

I bought this Victorinox Tinker to replace the Wenger Handyman that I carried in my left pocket for a couple of decades before losing it to a TSA checkpoint after I forgot that I was carrying it. I usually leave my pocket knife home before heading out for a flight, but I forgot one time. The perfect Swiss Army Knife is a subjective choice based on one's individual needs and daily routine. I have grown to like my Wenger Handyman and the main tools that I used were the main blade, the scissors, the wood saw, the screwdrivers and the file. The main blade came in handy for opening packages and for opening watch backs. The scissors came in handy almost daily and the wood saw was handy for everything from yardwork to basic repairs. The flathead and Philips drivers were handy for any screws that needed to be turned. The file was handy for fingernail maintenance or for sharpening other knives or yard tools. Wenger is now owned by Victorinox so I tried to find the knife that most closely matched my old Handyman. After some research, I settled on this Tinker. The Tinker is very high quality and has almost the same tools with the addition of pliers and a utility hook. However the Tinker has no wood saw and no file. I consider the lack of a saw and file to be too much of a detriment for my use case. In spite of the high quality of this knife, I decided to go with the Victorinox Swiss Champ so I will have all the tools that I might need from day to day. If I'm going to replace my Wenger Handyman, I might as well upgrade it and get more tools in a slightly larger package. The Tinker is a great knife for those who will mainly use the tools available on it. One drawback is that some of the tools were more difficult to deploy than I expected.

Very useful, kind of a dark horse in the Victorinox family

This Swiss Army Knife (SAK) does not have locking blades, and the blades are under the UK maximum permitted size, making it 'UK Friendly'. I bought it because a friend pointed out that old multi-tool I've had on my belt for years is NOT UK friendly, and I could end up in trouble simply for having it on my belt in a public place. In the UK you are not permitted to carry anything with locking blades or blades over 3" in public. This includes multi-tools, which is something I didn't know until recently. The Deluxe Tinker has four layers (one is a bit fatter than the others to accommodate the pliers), so it fits in the smaller 2-4 layer belt pouches. As a multi-tool, this is probably the most versatile and practical of any SAK. Yes, you can get the insane Giant and Swiss Champ tools, but they are almost a marketing exercise to show just how many functions you can fit in one tool. If you actually intend to use the thing, it needs to be a bit more practical. Having looked at lots of options, I felt that the combination of scissors, pliers, three screwdrivers, two modest blades, bottle and can openers, hook and a couple of other bits and bobs would suit me perfectly. I've had it for a couple of months now, and I definitely made the right choice. I can't say I've needed a corkscrew, which was displaced in favour of a full-sized Philips screwdriver on this tool. That was a good call, as the central location of the screwdriver allows a really good grip to remove stuck screws. If you really want a corkscrew, the Handyman has a similar feature set and adds a saw, file and corkscrew. Cool, but in all honesty, not features I really need. I'd actually like to understand the scenario in which I would need all those features. In what sort of world will I saw branches to make a shelter, and then open a bottle of wine...? Nothing on this tool is a novelty - it's a proper Swiss Army Knife. The scissors are real. You can cut paper or clip your fingernails with them, and they are strong enough to deadhead roses - I just did exactly that. Beware of the knife blades - they are razor sharp. One is very small, and actually the one I use the most. It's perfect for opening boxes. The pliers are a little small if you are used to a Gerber tool, but the Deluxe Tinker is half the size of a Gerber. I've used the pliers for repairing key chains and my wife's necklace after it got caught in her handbag strap, which is real-word use. I can't say I ever actually used the pliers on my Gerber for anything! The best feature of this tool is the price. It's £40. For a genuine, Swiss-made Victorinox tool with a lifetime guarantee.

C'est notre quatrième couteau suisse (nous avons par ailleurs chacun un simple "Climber", et j'ai toujours depuis des décennies le même canif porte-clés au fond de mon sac à main). Celui-ci est destiné à la boîte à gants de la voiture, afin de parer à tous les petits tracas qui peuvent survenir au cours d'un déplacement. Nous avons cette fois préféré le tournevis cruciforme au tire-bouchon qui équipe le Climber, et l'ajout d'une pince peut résoudre bien des problèmes. Celle-ci nous a très agréablement surpris, sa taille est loin d'être ridicule et elle paraît tout à fait solide. Comme nous avons offert à nos petits-enfants respectivement un Swiss Champ et un Fieldmaster, dont la manipulation des lames neuves nécessitait l'usage de la petite fiole de pétrole spécial, nous avons également commandé cette fiole pour nous. Mais ce n'était pas la peine : le Tinker est déjà pré-huilé, comme j'avais pu le lire dans certains commentaires. Les lames s'ouvrent donc parfaitement dès le premier usage ! Pourquoi cette particularité ? Je ne saurais l'expliquer. Peut-être pour faciliter la sortie de la pince ? En tout cas, ça épargne agréablement les ongles !

Los modelos de esta marca son relativamente extensos y hay herrramientas que jamás las usaría ya que estos modelos dependen de la necesidad de cada quien pero este modelo yo diría que es para un conductor y para un senderista ya que sus herramientas sirven para ambos en su mayoría. Y en lo personal la navaja tijeras y unas pinzas bueno uno nunca sabe cuando se usarán pero es mejor tenerlas y no usarlas que necesitarlas y no tenerlas muy bien producto la verdad su calidad le ha costado y hoy en día hay buenas multiherramientas pero para variedad y qie se acomode a cada quien creo que está difícil que la igualen
