Miele SEB 236 Electrobrush Floorhead for Deep Carpet Cleaning

I am always leary about spending this much money online, basically taking a chance this will be right, but this one actually is! Came fast, fits perfectly and works better than my original! Definitely wish it wasn't so expensive, but if that's what it takes to work this well, suck it up I guess. I would definitely recommend this product by this seller.

I had one of these powerheads before, but someone vacuumed water with it, an expensive loss at the time. This one was at a lower cost and is the exact same great unit. I love the LED light on it, one can see all the dust, spiderwebs and other things that make one realize they need to mop as well.

This is a replacement for the original that came with our Miele vacuum that was purchased back in 2009. The height adjustment pedal caused an internal plastic housing on the original floorbrush to break at around 15 years, but, in spite of that, it was still working when we replaced it. Eventually everything wears out. This one on Amazon was a good $100 less than we could fine it on any other website.

I ordered this for a 10 year Marin canister vacuum whose electro brush finally wore out. The new part worked great but is now turning itself off as if it is clogged (it is not) after only a few seconds, making it completely worthless. Of course it has no warranty so I am out $300 or I need to find a Miele authorized repair place that will probably charge me an arm and a leg to try and fix it. Maybe it has become best practice to just buy a new cheap vacuum every year or two since quality is not what it used to be.

Excellent item. Strong motor and LED light illuminates the area that you are vacuuming. Foot controls provide easy to use and convenient control of vacuuming head height and release of the handle from locked upright position. Great electric vacuum motor.

This is a hard one to review when you consider it is way over priced. So closing my eyes I am ignoring the Miele price gouging to give it 4 stars. I have two Miele, both older S2 models that have sat in the basement for years. I hated them as the power head on the unit was terrible on rugs and ours is just low pile large area rugs. I bought a Shark 5 years ago as i was tired of dragging the upside down canister around and having a workout everytime I attempted rugs. The Miele was awesome on hardwood floors. Well the Shark died two months after the warranty expired and I figure I would give the Miele one more shot given all the great reviews it had. Given the return policy at Amazon I read about the SEB236 and SEB228 and decided I would give the Miele one last try before I went with something else. The SEB236 costs the same as many vacuums and half that of a good one but I figured I would give it one more chance as my wife love Miele. The SEB236 does an excellent job on rugs and was the deciding factor in me now using it for all vacuuming. It is simple to use and manuver around the house and has a rubber bumper that protects the furniture. I love the light as it makes it easier to see all the things you would normally miss. We have two Siberian Huskies that blow their coat and never are in sync with each other thus we have fur everywhere for a least 6 months. The SEB236 paired with the S2 has cleaned my carpets far better than the Shark Duoclean ever did. The adjustable height makes it work greaeasy to push on rugs. Looking at its construction it reminds me of something from 1980, roller can't be removed easily, they just could have done a lot more with it. It works, does a good job but is at least $200 overpriced. In my case it has made it so I don't have to buy another vacuum cleaner so if you too are building muscles from trying to vacuum rugs with your Miele this is a great solution. When it comes to doing the hardwood floor my original Miele power head is much better. I would not recommen the SEB236 on hardwood.

I have owned my Miele C3 “soft carpet” for a number of years. My machine shipped originally with an electric power head - the SEB228, which has similar features as this SEB236, minus the LED headlight. After around five years of near 3-4x weekly vacuuming, my old powerhead had seen better days. While I intended initially to simply replace it with the same model, I found the SEB236 Premium was only $60 more; I also thought the lighted front would be a handy for getting under beds and other places of limited visibility. So I bought this model, and suffered a few disappointing performance issues. I received the SEB236 today and immediately put it to work. While I didn’t notice while vacuuming, I noticed afterwards that this powerhead swept more aggressively than my old SEB228. Throughout my carpeting, this power brush repeatedly pulled piles from the carpet structure. This is despite the correct height adjustment based on my carpet thickness. When I compared the brush roll of the 236 to one of my old 228 (I replaced the brush about 6 months ago - at great expense - should have just bought a new one back then) there’s a decided difference in bristle texture and firmness. The 236 has MUCH stiffer bristles. This along with the high speed of the “beater bar” was enough to damage my carpeting. Another difference of course is the pedal for adjusting height. I found the pedal of the 228 MUCH EASIER to use than this flush pedal of the 236, because the pedal sticks out from the body on that model. On the 236, The pedal is integrated and flush with the back of the unit. If you vacuum and socks like I do, this can make it a little difficult as your foot may slip while trying to adjust the height. This could be a matter of personal preference, but keep that in mind when making your decision. Finally, contrary to the Miele components of yore, this brush was made in Poland, not in Germany. This shouldn’t be a dealbreaker but it is worth noting as I have read multiple reviews which state this brush head is still being made in Germany. That is not the case with the current production, or at least the item that I received. I never owned a SEB236 from Germany so I don’t have a model-specific “apples to Apples” benchmark. In summary, what I will tell you is: the SEB228 is $60 cheaper, and arguably a better performing and easier to use brush head. It simply lacks a headlight. The SEB228 has been available for many years now, it is still made in Germany by Wessel Werk (for Miele), and it is powerful, while still being gentle enough to use on wall-to-wall carpeting. It’s slightly softer brush texture does a good job of extracting dirt while not destroying your carpet. The SEB236 is a good attempt to make a differentiated product, but was too aggressive.

This brush is available for purchase seperately or with the top of the line miele vacuum. I purchased a lower model that has the electro brush feature. NOTE that the lower priced miele models do not have an electro connection at the bottom to run the electro brushes. I would advise you to spend the extra money to have the features. The vacuum will last you ten years or more so its worth the added expense. The elctrobrush works very well. I just got my miele vacuum and am very happy. We have a dyson and a shark. The miele stands out as being quieter and seems to be able to get into more spaces, such as I can finally vacuum under the bed without taking out the mattresses and plywood. The suction is excellent. I can attest to the power because if your using a floor brush and its to close to the ground the suction will hold brush in one place. You can either lower the suction level (there's 6 levels) or increase the brush setting so its not as close to the floor. Its early days for me, but very happy with my purchase of the vacuum and the electrobrush head.

It is a must-have when you have a long-haired pet.

This is the top end powerhead for the C3 model. Where as it is very powerful and relatively easy to use, also clearly built to last- there are some things I think other Miele vacuum cleaner owners should know before spending in my opinion an extraordinary amount of money. First off as mentioned above is the price. It’s hard to complain because it is the top end model, it’s built like a tank and you can feel the power of it but $315 dollars plus tax for me was very hard to justify. Only actual reason for this purchase was because, and disappointingly enough the power head that came with my C3 excellence (electro comfort SEB 217-3) was quite literally useless and difficult to use on all surfaces including low pile carpets due to not having any adjustability. The second thing I want to mention is you lose the “parking” feature with this powerhead. I got used to the ease of parking the powerhead to the unit while cleaning and I really do miss it now that I have this power head. I assume it was taken away due to the weight of it? The weight is what brings me to the third thing I want to mention. It’s heavy. You can definitely feel the weight in it while vacuum cleaning. Nothing unbearable or too heavy to use but it is there. Also an issue I’ve sadly discovered regarding weight is the whole assembly tipping over. I’m Tall and use the full extension of the telescopic wand which makes it very easy to tip over. It stands on its own just fine but it is not very stable. It can and will tip backwards very easily if nudged or moved. Only reason I’m mentioning this is because I nudged the hose causing the hose and wand to fall backwards onto the unit pretty hard causing a scratch. With the weight of the power head I’d expect it to be more stable. But it’s not. Spending $999 on a vacuum just to drop another $315 to make it work properly was very frustrating to deal with financially, but now that I have the premium model of powerhead for my C3 it (now) works outstandingly well on all levels and I can tell it’ll last many years.
