This book could indeed be one of the best books on the topic
This book could indeed be one of the best books on the topic. Could, but is not. The author uses a lot of math but, regrettably, has trouble, great trouble in fact, to keep his notation in order. He uses parentheses where he shouldn't, does not use them where needed, switches wildly from parentheses to brackets to curly brackets and back, uses for multiplication a period here, an x there or even nothing at all, and on, and on, and on. Picky? Hardly. Notation is the language of mathematics, math is tough as it is, and to be clear one has to be consistent in one's notation. Case's book is needlessly very hard to read because you find yourself frequently just decoding what he wants to say before you can proceed to actually understand, memorize and apply. If you already know the stuff, the book is good as a reference.

Fabulous
I have been using celestial navigation for 40 years, and I am in awe and love with it. This book, plus it's companion book are wonderful primers to give to novices, as well as great reminders ones' own forgetfulness.

A fine supplement to to Astro Navigation Demystified
I bought this recently as a follow on to Astro Navigation Demystified (same author). Just like that book, this one has been produced with the reader's point of view in mind; it contains well-explained concepts followed by tests with full worked solutions for each question. It also has plenty of practical activities which are easy to carry out with simple materials. Overall, excellent.

Absolutely superb book.
Never read a more entertaining book! I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. This book explains things in very simple trigonometric terms with plenty of diagrams to make the understanding the mathematics of sun navigation as painless and fun as anything I have yet to read. My congratulation to Jack Case for taking the pains and time to make, what could be very difficult, very simple.Jim Gilliam
