He made a habit of switching it on as part of his evening routine easily enough. I can never remember, hah.- This is our 2nd one, the first one stopped heating up after 2 years, never knew why but there were no signs of trouble, it just stayed cold. We decided these days it was a long enough shelf life for the price, so replaced it; it was still better than buying another mattress pad style foot warmer which was pricey and failed in time too. It does get hotter than the last throw I had, which is great.I say "time will tell" because I've had bad luck with every Sunbeam product I have owned - they stop working after a year or so or the control goes bad after six months or so - ti's always something. And their repair policies are ridiculous - they want you to return the whole thing, not just the controller, even if that's the only problem. At your own expense, of course. Right out of the bag, hooked up, is very large and comfortable and even on Low (the only setting I've tested thus far) it is very warm. My home is unheated (waste of $$ to heat it up) so this works a charm! Colour sent by seller was "fawn" or buff. Bonus: the cord for both the power and the controls were long enough to reach the power socket and my chair. Extra bonus: the instruction manual (which covers more than one of Sunbeam's blanket products) IS clear and concise.
