Will this reader read a cfexpress type b card in the xqd slot?

No, it just reads XQD cards. They are very different.

What is the guarantee period on this item in the UK? I've had mine 2.5 years and it has suddenly failed.

I don't see any mention of any guarantee offered. I will say that I only use this card for updating camera firmware. The card reader supplied cannot be used for any other make of card and frankly, there are better, higher capacity and cheaper options out there.

What brand is the card reader?

I use a Lexar reader as it gives me a direct USB 3 connector (no cables to get lost). This suits my way of working. There are other readers out there on the internet to suit different needs. The one in the link is Sony's reader which has a cabled connection. I am not sure if the cable is permanently connected or not
