While it's smaller than I thought it would be, it's very bright! We hung it on our backyard side fence by the gate. It's motion activated so if anyone opens the gate at night they are immediately hit with a very bright light. My husband assembled it without reading the instructions so it took me a minute to figure out how to turn it on...there is a very tiny hole above the motion sensor. It's too small for a toothpick but just big enough for a sewing needle. Poke the needle in that hole to toggle it on or off. One it's on you can leave it in the "on" position.
