SHIMANO SM-SH45 SPD-SL Cleat Covers

I noticed walking on my gravel driveway was causing my new cleats to deteriorate quickly. Walking in the grass was messy so I purchased the cleat covers to reduce wear to my cleats. They snap on easily, stay on, and protect my cleats from the rocks. Just pull them off just before I take off, and drop in my jersey pocket. I am happy with my purchase. I can’t testify to durability as I just purchased them this week. I can say that I am glad I purchased them. An ounce of prevention is worth a ton of trouble later on. Hopefully they will prolong the life of my cleats, therefore saving me money.

Unlike other brands, these actually stay on the cleats so you don't have to worry about losing one every 15 steps. They're made from a very firm rubber that stretches just enough to go over the cleat, but then contracts to grip it tightly. That makes them a little fiddlier to put on/take off than the softer alternatives, but I think it's well worth it. There also narrower than the alternatives because they only cover the center part of the cleat; the side clips will stick out, but the rubber sole is thick enough that they won't contact the ground, so you can walk on relatively smooth surfaces without worrying about damage. If you're picking your way through a rock garden you would want to be careful that you don't bash the protruding side tips against anything, but you probably won't be negotiating that kind of terrain in hard cleats anyway. (That's why MTB shoes use the recessed cleats!) The sole is textured and grippy; it don't have any slippage on smooth sealed concrete, and I expect that even ice will be negotiable in the winter.

Took a month to arrive, as estimated. Having said that, these covers are great. I just got to try them out yesterday. After riding 55 km to Whistler, we had to dismount and walk through the village. I put these covers over my cleats, and viola! I was protecting my cleats and had great traction while walking. These stayed on very well, and I had no problem with them coming off while walking over pavers. To take them off, it took a bit of a hard tug on the tabs to get them off. They fit in my under seat saddle bag without adding much weight. I am definitely bringing these on the next ride where I know we are getting off the bike and walking.

Some years ago, after wearing out several sets of Shimano SPD cleats, I went looking for cleat covers. Shimano's were expensive so I tried a different brand that was $5-6 cheaper. They worked but they weren't that snug and eventually one of the covers fell off and I lost it. Stupidly, I ordered another set of the same brand and—no surprise—had the same results. So I decided to try the Shimanos. They are very snug and provide excellent protection for the cleats. They are snug enough that it's a little hard to get them on and off with one hand, which took some getting used to, but it's a small price to pay for not having to worry about them falling off. I wish I had bought them years ago!

Nice and heavy duty. They only cover the cleat, not the nubs on the sides so those aren't protected from wear. It might be nice to have a different color than black so that they can be found more easily. It would be nice if they snapped together when not in use too.

Walked on grass and dirt with these on and they kept my cleats clean! they snap on easily and are slim enough to keep in your jersey pocket. They feel sturdy, like they’ll last awhile, so the $18 price feels reasonable.

Best covers for Shimano road pedals. Snaps on securely and does not come off like the triangle shaped cleat covers.

Have been using them on daily basis for a week. Great stuff and I can now walk easily without risk of slipping
