My first time trying Chicory “Coffee”. This is a lovely warm beverage having nutty-earthy notes with an almost chocolatey finish. I find it a great alternative to coffee even though it tastes nothing like the Folgers coffee I love so much. I was looking for something that did have so many chemicals, additives and caffeine. This certainly fits the bill. Using organic Stevia and a bit of milk gives me the creamy texture I was looking for without the acid and caffeine of coffee. I use 2 tablespoons in a pot with 8 cups of water, bring it to a boil and then let it simmer for about 15 min. It takes about the same amount of time to make a pot of coffee in my coffee maker. I can leave it on warm on the stove and it does not “cook” the way coffee does so I can enjoy it for several hours. I had some left over and tried it over ice with stevia and it was very palatable as well. It goes a long way so I feel the value is there for me personally. I also found out the left-over grounds can be consumed as a fiber supplement when added to a smoothie or used to feed your garden. The only negative – It stains my teeth. However, whiting toothpaste helps with that problem.

Great deal. 100% chicory. (Others are 50/50 chicory and coffee) Fresh, and flavorful. Not the cheapest, but it's still the best.

By doctor's orders, I've been away from coffee/caffiene for a week so far. Chicory has done well to curb coffee cravings. I find myself looking forward to a morning cup. It's flavor profile is quite similar to coffee. Earthy, rich, bitter aftertones. The aftertaste isn't great, just odd. It's like mixing coffee with tea followed by the bitter aftertaste of something like a grapefruit. It doesn't persist after a few sips. It's worth noting that a proper 10 minutes simmering the grounds and water will mellow this. As positives: it has a good effect on digestion and elimination, I'm more relaxed when I need to be, and I have consistent energy. It's because chicory is a very mild laxative and there's none of the tit-for-tat that comes with caffeine.

Everybody I know loves coffee, but it affects individuals differently. Some people get jittery, some can't sleep, then there is the heavy sweating--so I decided to look for a healthy substitute. I typed an healthy substitute for coffee in the AI, and Chicory came back as one of the queries. I purchased a bag and let me tell you, and from my perspective, this tastes better than coffee without all the negative effects. And you still don't have to stop drinking coffee: you can mix it in with the chicory to cut back the negative effects. I prefer to drink straight chicory with cream or creamer. Definitely exceeded expectations because I was skeptical before actually tasting it. Even after the first couple cups, I though it was a trick--or I would somehow discover this is okay, but not coffee. It's not the case--and I pretty much have my strength down at this point; it really tastes like nicely brewed gourmet coffee. Solid price point as well.

This is a greath healthy alternative to coffee. Have tried other brands. Some claimed they were decaffeinated + chickory, but still had high blood pressure readings. Consistent lower readings with Herbaila chickory (my personal experience). This is affordable and of high quality. Careful packaging & speedy delivery! Had trouble giving up my 40+ year caffeine addition. I sometimes add a pinch of ginger powder (etc.) to give it a 'kick.' Chickory is also noted to have beneficial effects on glucose leveling. Needless to say, I am a long-term repeat customer.

Most of us use chicory as a way to darken, deepen, and add body to coffee. I drink it straight because I have ZERO tolerance for caffiene. And I bought this a number of times and it was fine; dark, aromatic, and flavorful. I ordered two bags of it two weeks ago and found that it was not even close to the darkness and flavor of what I got even three months ago. Brewed full strength, this looks like weak brewed tea and has NONE of the flavor intensity of the old roast. I tried to return the unopened bag and was told that it is "not eligible for return". I tried contacting Herbaila to see if they have a dark roast version. No. This is it. If you enjoy chicory for the usual purposes, DON'T order this mess because it has none of those virtues and you're just out your money. What a CRASHING disappointment.

I haven’t drank coffee in years but can remember the flavor and scent and this doesn’t come close at all. It smells like dirt and tastes bitter and sour (zero nuttiness). It’s only palatable with sugar. I’m not picky at all and have drank through my fair share of bad instant coffee etc but this is terrible. I’ve never had straight Chicory coffee before so can’t compare or say If quality or freshness are at fault. I highly recommend “dandy blend” which is an instant coffee alternative (dandelion/barley/chicory etc). It’s a bit more expensive than this but worth it. The taste and flavor are closer to coffee and it is tasty in its own way regardless. Update: I was making the coffee too strong at first also I don’t follow the listed brewing directions anymore. This stuff is quite concentrated and 10 minutes is too long and brings out the sour burnt flavors more. I do 5 minutes in the French press and it tastes much more mild. I still don’t like this but its fine for when I’m in the mood for a hot beverage. I drink it black but I’m sure sugar and cream would improve. If I buy chicory coffee again I’ll try a different brand.

Reading descriptions of multiple chicory offers at amazon.com I chose this one. Now I know it was a good choice! I received it quickly, even one day before the promised date. The chicory in the package has very good smell and excellent taste. Granules are small, dissolve well; at the same time, it is not dusting powder. I know very well that chicory does not contain caffeine, but contains healthy inulin. Some people use chicory as coffee substitute. It is also used in mix with coffee by many people in countries all over the world, including the US, especially in Louisiana. I drink it separately from coffee, with milk or cream, because I like its taste and healthy features, not to avoid caffeine – I love and drink coffee separately for keeping coffee’s aroma and taste. Now I have information that this chicory was supplied by the family business. I can and don’t mind to deal with any size company, but especially enjoy working with family business. It can provide personal care.
