It is the potency. The lower potency, 6C, 12C, 30C, are used for acute conditions. The higher potency are used for more chronic conditions. The lower potency shows faster or immediate response but higher potency, 200CK, 1M, are dosed less frequently and may take longer to show effects. For instance 200CK are dosed once every two weeks and 1M perhaps once every six months or year or even once at all. It all depends on the condition and recommendations from a qualified homeopathic prescriber. Lower potency doesn't mean less effective or less powerful. Arnica 6C or 12C are used for acute and more recent pain and can be used more frequently daily like 1 to 3 pellets 3 to 4 times daily for longer period of time.
