Classic for a reason!
Such a great game! I was afraid the fixed hand rules and bean trading would be hard for my kids to follow but they adopted both aspects of the game easily and enthusiastically! My eldest enjoyed the "push your luck" and would try to get the highest return on beans before converting. However, my youngest glommed onto the tight economy of the game right away and quickly figured out that "bean blocking" was an important strategy against his brother. Fun, interactive, quick to the table with good math lessons woven in!

Don’t judge it by the beans!
I bought this game on a whim and ended up being pleasantly surprised. I even managed to convince my cousins (who are usually not into board or card games at all) to give it a try. At first, the theme (beans!) isn’t exactly the sexiest or most convincing selling point, and it didn’t immediately grab everyone’s attention. However, the rules are incredibly easy to follow, which helped everyone ease into the game quickly. The first couple of rounds felt more like practice: getting used to the trading mechanics and understanding the basic strategies. But after a few rounds, once everyone gained some experience and know-how, the game became more and more fun. By the end, everyone was engaged, negotiating, and genuinely enjoying themselves. I highly recommend this game if you’re looking for a card game that’s simple to learn but offers a lot of replayability and depth over time.

Fun game, simple & easy to learn
This is a game that I discovered by accident and I can't be happier that I did. This game is a nice & easy counterpart to some more complex games that I play regularly with my game group, and the beauty lies in the simplicity. Each player (2-7 can play) attempt to collect similar types of beans (which are comically illustrated on the cards) & harvest those beans for gold coins. The most coins at the end of the game wins. Although the game is very simple on the surface, the fun & replay ability comes from the fact that you are allowed (and encouraged!) to interact with your competitors. Most of the game action involves trying to negotiate trades between players to try and accumulate the beans you want while getting rid of the beans you don't. The strategy isn't too difficult, but if you aren't in the mood for a deeply involved, hours long game then this is perfect. I would put it nearly on par with 7 Wonders Game for depth of strategy (although 7 Wonders is a little more difficult as there are many more rules). The first time through this game was a little difficult to understand the dynamic, but now I am able to teach a table full of beginners in about 10 minutes. Being a card only game, setup time is virtually non-existent. Just unbox & play! The only thing to note is that you use slightly different arrangements of which cards get used for different numbers of players. This also prevents some cards from wearing faster than others which is a complaint I have with some other card games that use specific cards more often than others ( Dominion specifically).

Great board game for all ages, best for 3-5 players
Bought Bohnanza on a recommendation from a friend a while ago and have been playing it non-stop since. My whole life I had always played the "generic" / mainstream board games such as Monopoly, Scrabble, etc. so it was a nice breath of fresh air to play a "non-mainstream" board game. Since then I have bought a LOT of other boardgames (carcassone, settlers of catan, loot, etc) but Bohnanza is still a perennial favorite amongst my family. Bohnanza's premise is fairly simple: You are a bean farmer, and by planting and harvesting beans (cards) you get gold coins (gold coins are printed on the back of each card...collect a certain number of a type of bean and you can get a certain number of coins for them). The player with the most gold coins at the end wins the game. You start with two bean fields to plant in (only one type of bean per field at a time) and the catcher is that you can NOT change the order of the cards in your hand. So if you are building two nice bean stalks in your bean fields but your next card is not either of those types, you'll have to harvest one bean field to make room for the new bean. (later on in the game you can also purchase a third bean stalk.) To alleviate this problem of harvesting when you dont want to, you can trade or donate beans to the other people playing. This makes the game very interactive and a great social game. The game says it is for 2-7 players. However, because of the trading aspect of the main game, the 2 player version is VERY different from the "main" regular way to play when you have 3+ players. While the 2-player rules were OK, it was not particularly fun and would not recommend this game if it will only be 2 people playing. Most of the time I have been playing this game was with 3-4 people, and it is great. Games take about 45 minutes, but there is constant talking and trading so you dont really feel downtime at any one point. However, I recently played this game with the max recommended 7 people and did not enjoy it! The game was very slow, and with so many people throwing out trades to the active player it takes a while on each person's turn. Worse if that if you do not have anything to trade with the active player, you may have to sit for a while and let other people hash out their trades. While it can be fun to observe others arguing over whose trade is the better deal, it can get tiring and drawn out with 7 people. Decent mix of strategy and luck, but the part I enjoy the most is just the social interaction of offering and accepting trades. Negotiations can become funny especially if two people are offering the same trade and the third person must decided whose to take (or decline both!). I highly, highly recommend this game if you plan on playing with 3-5 people.

Classic negotiation game that is fun to play. Great quality of cards and player reference cards for basic rules reminders. This is the basic card game including an expansion (extra card types) that can be played up to 7 players instead. I also like about this version that you have physical mats for your bean planting fields which is just a nicer esthetic compared to the regular base game where the first 2 fields were invisible and only if you bought the 3rd field, would you have a card representing that field. So if you want to buy this game, definitely go for this edition that includes the expansion and field mats, over the base game version. The game arrived super fast within just a couple days.
