My favourite cookbook
I bought this over 10 years ago, and it is still my favorite cookbook. I particularly love the kitchari recipes, I've made the pitta kitchari recipe for nearly everyone I know. This book covers the basics for how to follow an ayurvedic way when it comes to cooking, and I would say it's relatively traditional (as compared to some more new age ayurveda cookbooks I've come across lately), which I really appreciate. The recipes are easy to follow and offer a range of meals, dishes, soups, drinks, teas etc. Highly recommend!

really great
Over the past two years I have been a human sponge when it comes to ayurveda. This book is great. Some of the items I cannot find locally. However, it does make suggestions for most herbs that can be substituted. The receipts are easy to follow and make. The concept of using specific herbs with specific foods is very interesting. I totally enjoy cooking and eating using this method. I would say this is a must for a personal ayurvedic library and a must have for interesting meals for family and guest. As I read through the book I got the feeling I was standing in the kitchen with the author and having a conversation rather than just reading how to directions.

No Pictures!
Very informational. I would have given it five stars if it had pictures. Another great feature would have been what could be substituted for items that cannot be found or else where it would be possible to attain them. I would buy this book again simply because of the educational value. Very well written!

meh- could be way better
the print in this book is very hard to read - why don’t they take the time to update the typeset, fonts, and paper quality? recipes are ok, a little dated - was a bit disappointed by this book and gave it to goodwill

Ayurvedic cooking for self healing
This is the perfect book if you want to learn how to heal yourself through eating. Food is medicine or food is poison. Stop eating poison and learn to eat medicine. Other reviews are saying this is just an average book on ayurvedic cooking. If you want really complex, super tasty dishes that will only satisfy an Americans extravagant taste buds, then they might be right. But this book is all you need to know to cook "balanced" ayurvedic meals that will heal you. I also recommend The complete book of ayurvedic home remedies by Dr. Vasant Lad.

Exceeded my expectations
This book is a must have for anyone serious about ayurvedic cooking. This book come from extremely knowledgeable people.( for Western people, possibly the most important pioneers of ayurveda. Read Dr Vasant other books, and you will understand what I am saying.) This book is just filled with information. Not only does she give charts on food qualities. After each recipe, she tells you a little bit about the main ingredient. There is also a remedy section, where she goes into details about most fruits and spices. Did I mention that the recipes are supper tasty. Food that is a pleasure too chew a little bit longer. Most of her recipes are also tri-doshic, with little tips throughout the book. Overall I can't recommend this book enough.

I love the fact that recipes indicate whether your body type ...
This recipe book took me really by surprise. It challenges completely our view of cooking (i.e. those of us who are not Indian) and which foods & spices go well together. I love the fact that recipes indicate whether your body type (Vatta, Pitta or Kapha) will increase or decrease and also very helpful (apart from the recipes which sound absolutely scrummy) is the chart telling you which foods to avoid and which you can have. In three days only of avoiding the foods indicated, my body is already giving me the "thumbs up". I can't wait to try the recipes, particularly the bread (on page 152) without yeast. Thoroughly love this book (and can also recommend the other book by him "The complete book of Ayurvedic recipes". Please buy this book - you seriously won't regret it.

Certains ingédients introuvables/Difficulty finding certain ingredients
It has been a while since I've bought this book, but I haven't been able to use it often because there are ingredients that seem essential and often appear in the recipes, but are unobtainable even at the Asian specialty stores like ajwan, hing and curry leaves. There's a small introduction to the world of Ayurveda at the beginning of the text ; the chapter on food combining is very basic. The two recipes that I've tried (samosas, mung dal kitchari) are very wholesome.
