Tequila Mockingbird: Cocktails with a Literary Twist

My son gave me the original book a number of years ago, and i love it. I bought this anniversary edition for several friends, who have really enjoyed it. This is the perfect "hostess" gift - something unique. It is also ideal gift for friends who enjoy cocktails and are readers or those who have a bar in their home. I have gifted 10 or so of these books & those i given one to are still talking about the book and thanking me. Book is filled with unusual cocktails, cleverly paired with literature classics. Fun to make cocktails and/or just enjoy reading.

Love this book, have bought several now to give as gifts.

Adorable funny book

This was entertaining and well written. There's a mix of recipes in terms of amount (from 2-4 drinks in a recipe to 6-10 drinks in a recipe), so it's ideal for the single person wanting cocktails to make with a friend or two to someone who likes to entertain larger groups of friends. I will say that as total beginners (we only owned vodka for the occasional white russian), this can be a little daunting. We're slowly working our way up in terms of alcohol assortment and mixers by trying the simplest recipes, but most of the recipes would be easier for someone who already has a few different types of alcohol and largely just needs to buy mix-ins.

Clever titles -- as an English major, I was quite entertained. My husband and I have tried quite a few recipes from this book and really like most of them. My husband loves Rye and Prejudice and I like Romeo and Julep myself. The Joy of Sex on the Beach is also a good one. A Pitcher of Dorian Gray Goose was also a hit at a party. We've come across a few we didn't like as much, but overall I'd say the book is definitely worth buying. Plus we keep it on display with our liquor glasses and our guest regularly comment in on the book and flip through it!

As a huge fan of birds, puns, and the novel referenced in the title, I fell in love with this book the second I laid eyes on it, but I bought it for my father-in-law instead because I don't often drink Tequila. That said, many of these creative recipes sound downright delicious, even to me. Some are a bit fancier than others and would require some planning ahead, but plenty can be whipped up quickly from common ingredients. I've especially enjoyed perusing the clever drink names. Each one is a pun on a classic work of literature, and many have made me laugh out loud. Drankenstein was a particular favorite. The whole book is delightfully humorous, and the layout is thoughtfully done as well. It's really a joy to look through. There are pictures and other sorts of content mixed in to keep things fresh throughout, including some drinking game suggestions. To top it off, the book has a nice hardback cover and sturdy pages. I'm super pleased with the quality, especially for the price. It's going to make a fantastic gift.

I laughed out loud, much to the chagrin of my fellow line loiterers, and I think I dog-eared (technically speaking, that little blue life-saver on Kindle) pretty much every single dink mentioned. Otherwise, you could go a half-century till you find the real thing. Anywho, I would be one/eleventy-hundredth the brilliant mind as Tim if I could stop testing these drinks and reread/'buy now with 1-click' the books he references. (A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S BEAM; A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM (CIRCA 1600) BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE) Take two parts Ren Faire and one part Greek mythology, add a liberal dash of forest-dwelling nymphs, and you've got Shakespeare's whimsical meditation on love and lunacy. An amateur might toast this oft-produced play with two melatonin and a gulp of cough syrup, but Lord, only a foolish mortal would try that-- this is a dream, not a blackout. You'll want to stay upright, if drowsily so, for a light, vegetation-heavy drink that will keep you skimming all five acts before a proper fairy-blessed slumber. You might just wake up in love.. What are you going to do with a bottle elderflower liqueur when you only need 1 ounce? Bartender Jen (Gin) suggest getting those little sample bottles they sell at her house of worship, Total Wine & More. JIGGER: For small liquid measurements. A metal hourglass shape, available in a variety of sizes. We prefer the 1-ounce-over-1 ½-ounce model-- but you should up the dosage if you're trying to get through Anna Karenina. This is another enjoyable read, in a series and from one of my favorite authors. Filled with delicious humor and more yummy recipes. A great addition to my ( or anyone’s ) mixology library !
