don't confuse this with Mazda M-V atf
Make sure you don't confuse this with "Mazda M-V" which is very different and can damage your transmission. Straight from service bulletin Bulletin No: 05-005/08: NOTE: • ATF M-V (TYPE M5) IS NOT THE SAME FLUID AS MERCON®V ATF. • ATF M-V (TYPE M5) HAS A GREATER VISCOSITY THAN MERCON®V ATF IN LOW TEMPERATURES. • ATF M-V (TYPE M5) HAS A GREATER ANTI-JUDDER SPECIFICATION THAN MERCON®V ATF. CAUTION: • USING ATF OTHER THAN ATF M-V (TYPE M5) IN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS DESIGNED TO USE ATF M-V (TYPE M5) MAY CAUSE SHIFT QUALITY COMPLAINTS. • USING ATF OTHER THAN MERCON®V IN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS DESIGNED TO USE MERCON®V MAY CAUSE TRANSMISSION DAMAGE. I haven't yet tried the Amsoil equivalent for Mazda M-V but have had good success with using the equivs from Amsoil for 2 other cars. My read of a Mazda service manual says that Mercon-V isn't common in their transmissions.

"Mercon 5" is not the same as more commonly used "ATF M-V"
It’s insane that this fluid comes up as a top search result when searching for "Mazda ATF M-V"! "Mercon 5" type fluid is used in few Mazda models. ATF M-V is much more common. Like previous reviewer noted, Mazda issued a service bulletin stating that ATF M-V is not equivalent to "Mercon V", the use of which could damage a transmission. Google for "mazda service bulletin 05-001/16" (Amazon strips links from reviews). If you’re looking for ATF M-V, commonly used in many Mazda models, this is not what you need. This may be an excellent fluid, but I’m marking it one star because it shouldn’t be a top search result for "Mazda ATF M-V". Search for "Genuine Mazda 0000-77-112E-01 Transmission Fluid" if you’re looking for the fluid more commonly used in Mazdas.
