The socks have that neoprean feel and being size 12, I can and have had room for another pair underneath. I mainly go out in the Peak District, so I can expect all conditions in a days ride. I don't have mudguards but wear waterproof trousers and top. If I go through a stream or getting a constant battering by rain or whatever comes off the front wheel, water ingress is inevitable. When my flats have been soaked and there is no chance of drying (winter riding) then the socks can feel cold too, if you don't have another pair underneath. They are a good length. I don't get sweaty feet, but do feel cold more. I will use them through the year.
